Consumer Reports says HS250 has just "average" reliability
Just got my CR mag, and the HS250 scored only average in reliability, a little more than halfway down the pack of "upscale" cars. IS250 and ES350 are at the top with the TL. Anyone know what's ailing the HS - problem areas? I don't think they count recalls - or customer sentiment - just actual failures.
Interestingly, the RX hybrid scores only average too, well below the RX350. Wonder if it's the hybrid drive causing these. Though the TCH scored higher than either the 4 or 6 cyl Camry. Prius was about average too. Not all hybrids had problems - the Fusion hybrid topped the list of family cars, with higher reliability than any Lexus except the LX.
Sadly, I chose the HS over the A3 and GTI partly due to reputation for reliability, and the GTI actually outscored it :-(
Overall, Lexus came in 9th in reliability as a brand - below even Subaru and Volvo. Toyota slipping too (6th) - hope it's not a trend. Scion was #1 - maybe Toyota's best engineers are flocking to the hip youngster cars?
