How about this? Just put the batteries in the IS250's rear seat and seal them off...make it a 2-seater. You and I both agree that rear seat in that car is just about worthless anyway.
(Just kidding, of course, but an interesting thought).

Honestly Mike, makes some sense. Make a true 2 door coupe, hybrid. Batteries help with weight distribution!

Why not just do a hybrid version of the IS250? Thay way, all these questions about what it would look like, how it would be styled, and (maybe) what the pricing would be already answered. True, the RWD version wouldn't have much in the way of the FWD traction that the Prius and Civic Hybrid have, but if they can do a hybrid IS AWD and fit the drivetrain in (the AWD hardware, of course, is already there), the traction problem would be addressed as well.

Will the HS250h be a precursor to the next/3rd gen Prius?

A lot of people that I have talked to who have seen the car say that it looks almost exactly like the ES but with somewhat squished proportions.
Interesting thought, I guess.

I am hoping it has more hybrid-distinct looks. By that I mean it can have more futuristic proportions. But hopefully it's not too conservative or ugly.

What does the 316 cost in Europe? What does diesel cost in Europe right now?
What does the IS220d get in terms of fuel efficiency? I would think that's more of a competitor than the HS250h.

Diesel = 0.899 € / liter
Gasoline = 0.999 € / liter
BMW 316 (122 hp) base price = 27.050 €
BMW 320diesel (177 hp) base price = 34050 € sells like hot cakes
fuel efficiency according to BMW specs = 4.7l/100 outstanding
Lexus IS220d (177 hp) base price =32.250 € does not sell very well, multiple reliability issues related with the diesel engine
fuel efficiency according to Lexus specs =7.4 l /100 (not that good) but the actual fuel efficiency for some drivers is pretty close from IS250's (9.0 l /100 +). Clearly Lexus definitively needs an Hybrid since the IS220d is a major failure and it has been announced that Lexus will stop producing the diesel IS220d when the gen3 IS is released (by 2011).

Considering the Prius gets 68 MPG average rated in the UK, I doubt the HS250 will have a problem getting close to that as it is suppose to be the Lexus Prius and each new Prius gets larger and more fuel efficient

Let's go Lexus!
A hybrid for everyone should be ToMoCo's thing in the future.
On a side note,
Please stop making your SUV's so damn fugly and let's make your sports sedans more sporty cuz you know you've got the luxury down 100%.
oh and fix the squeaks will ya? it started in 06. it's old news. c'mon.

So 1.8 litres then just like the new Prius. I guess so. The 1.5 litre Prius was meant to give performance of a 2.0 litre.
That'll definitely challenge perceptions then!

I'm really excited to see the new HS250. I hope its a 1.8 liter not a 2.5 liter. Lexus needs a real euro fighter and they need a sub 2 liter car for that. Give it a healthy HP and torque bumb with the electric motors. If this thing gets 35-40 mpg Lexus will really take it to the Germans world wide, not just USA
