Default Unlocking trunk

My wife has a complaint because she arrives home, leaves her purse with the fob in the car after shutting it off then gets out and the trunk will not unlock by pressing the button on the trunk lid. I cannot get her to just pull the trunk lever on the dash before she exits the car. I ran a test and the trunk cannot be opened from outside while the key fob is in the car. None of the lock settings on the Nav screen address this issue. I will read the owners manual next, but wondered if anyone had any wisdom on why this occurs. It seems there is no reason to prevent opening the trunk once the car is off even if the key is in the car. Maybe to prevent car jackers from hiding in your trunk while you are at the drive up window?

The pick-up antenna for the trunk is located right back there by the license plate and it's range is very short and localized.

For the same reason, you can't stand by the drivers door with the fob in your pocket, and have someone unlock the passenger door by touching the handle.

Also for anyone that might have forgot, remember you have a trunk lock out button inside the glove box too.

My boss likes to carry her fob in her purse too. I keep telling her it works much better if you just keep it in you pants pocket. And besides that, you can loose your purse, or have it stolen. Then what do you do?

But if you lose your pants, you're in a world of hurt, then it doesn't matter !!!!!!!

Oh well, ya' can't fight city hall.

Thanks! That explanation makes sense. Now I don't have to take it to the dealer to fix something she thinks is broken because when it was the same afterward she would blame the dealer for being incompetent.
