Default Installing Lexus OEM and aftermarket remote starter

Happy Holidays to all HS250H owners,

If you are thinking about installing a remote start for your HS250H, it's doable with both Lexus OEM module or aftermarket remote start. I've installed both and I prefer aftermarket remote starter...

First of all, the OEM module from Lexus is simple to install, just remove a few panels, plug in the included harness BUT you need to have Techstream to program it. I bought a mini xvci cable from Amazon, installed Techstream to my old 32 bit Window 7 laptop, hooked up to the OBDI port and programmed the module without any issue. Remote start works by click lock lock then hold lock for 3 seconds.........However, the range is terrible and I felt that I wasted my money and time for nothing. It only works around 50 ft range. You can buy OEM module on Ebay for around $100 to $150 or Sewell for $$250. Instruction is available on Sewell website for OEM install.

Now is the fun part, I hate the OEM remote start due to its range so I ripped it out and trashed it. I spent about 2 weeks researching aftermarket remote starter and I found Omega, Excalibur. I bought a one way Excalibur RS-360EDPB and Omega Blade AL bypass on Amazon for $140, Omega USB loader cable for another $45. You need the cable to load your vehicle firmware (Version DL-TL2) and change all the desired settings via Omega web link.

The remote start from Excalibur works great over 1000 ft but it will shut down the engine if doors are opened due to no takeover from Lexus. Blade bypass is a life saver, I eliminated about 15 wires connection with Blade.

If anyone wants to start his own weekend project, let me know and I will post by tutorial in the next thread.

Interesting.

Most factory remote starts all seem to have a very limited range. I think the reasoning is that the manufacturer wants you to be within SIGHT range of the car and somewhere a designer, or lawyer figured a human could only see his car from 50 feet away.

I'm very interested in where and how you came across the Techstream program. I want to try to bleed the brake system by myself. Any pointers on Techstream would be helpful. If you think the info might be proprietary, as most of Lexus maintenance is, please PM me. I might have a super secret factory workshop manual I might trade.

Amazon,
I got the cable on Amazon for $29, it comes with a small CD that contains Techstream, USB drivers. The cable only works with Window 32 bit machines like Xp, Win7 32 bit. There is a workaround for newe 64 bit machines but take a lot of extra works. I just use my old laptop.

Default HS250h OEM Remote Start Install

Is there a work around without using Techstream? I purchased via ebay the OEM remote start (PT398-24101) not realizing the system needs programming.

The install sounds like I need an OBD2 scanner connected to a laptop. If so, I need to buy a OBD2 scanner ... really didn't want to spend more money on the install.

Welcome to CL. It appears you have to have the OBD techstream cable and some other stuff described in the link below. Try some Google and youtube searches as this has been asked many times in other threads and the issues are similar across most Toyota and Lexus models.
It may be more cost effective to just pay a shop to do it. Try custom shops that install alarms etc.

I suggest you read this related conversation and the second link https://www.siennachat.com/threads/h...mselves.28762/
