Default Another 1000 mile tank!

Just filled up, the HS250h allowed me to get the 2nd 1000 mile tank in a row. The potential is definitely there. Here are the key figures:

1065.3 miles
16.669 gallons
67.1 mpg per MFD
63.9 mpg actual

The temperatures are starting to fall here (we're seeing in the 40 degree range on some mornings) so I think it's going to be a lot tougher to maintain decent mileage until spring arrives. I will not give up though.

I'm always hypermiling. That's the only way I could obtain the higher mpg's. My route and my travel times allow me to and I feel fortunate that I can.

Hyperme, I would like to know your average speed, as compared to the average speed limits of the streets you drive on. Just curious.

very impressive. what is your speed and also the hypermiling techniques you use?

Google says that the hs 250h is as heavy as the gs300!
Man technology is amazing.

How did you get 16.669 gallons into a car which has a 14.5 gallon gas tank?

I'm looking for any trick to maximize the range on a tank of gas and your skill in getting an extra two gallons into a 14.5 gallon tank would certainly help my numbers.

My total commute is 40 miles roundtrip. I use a route that has the fewest stops possible and very few left turns. Posted speed limits are between 25-50mph on various streets. My maximum speed is normally in the upper 40's. I do a lot of pulse and gliding. With stops and everything included, my average speed is in the low 20's. I do leave very early (before 5am) so I don't really see much traffic. I would have to say overall it's a pretty favorable commute for mpg purposes. It's also pretty flat, some rolling hills, one major one.

My average speed is in the low 20mph range. I use several hypermile techniques, as follows:
DWB
DWL
Face out/Potential Parking
P&G
Warm-up P&G
RR
Route planning
Light timing
NICE-on coasting
NICE-off coasting
Max sidewall tire pressure plus
Grille blocking
Reverse passing

On my second last fill, I added 16.688 gallons. Needless to say, I was shocked. On this last fill, I added 16.669 gallons. The tank is definitely not 14.5 gallons. It took a lot of courage, but now I know how large my tank is.

I think that's pretty much all of the techniques right there. Except for drafting big trucks, but that'll mess up the finish on your car if you get a rock or something thrown at you, resulting in money lost from repairs that far exceed gas savings for a while.

Not to mention the safety factor. Drafting is not in my repertoire.

Im not sure about the HS but I know on other Lexus models they dont recommend overfilling the tank and to stop filling after the pump shuts off the first time. I believe it was because you could get fuel in your charcoal canister.
