Well my mom wants to get a HS...
So i showed my mom HS250h the other day in the mall parking lot and she loves it, she currently has a 2010 benz e350 for her weekend car, and a 2009 mini cooper for her daily work car. she is thinkin of trading in the mini for the HS, she drives about 50 miles round trip per day for work. what do you think, is it a good car. i mean its a toyota so it must be good right. im pretty sure she is tryn to get one by the end of this month and she wants it in white with black leather.

If she drives mostly highway, then she shouldn't expect better gas mileage than the Mini. The HS is bigger / more comfortable though, and should be more reliable. But the Mini is way more fun to drive and is more hip IMO.

I tried a Mini and the ride is among the worst I have ever seen. It is like there are no springs. The HS is a whole different animal. If she loves the Mini, she will hate the HS, if she hates the Mini, she will love the HS. I really tried to like the Mini Clubman, but the ride was so bad over Tucson's city streets that it was nearly undriveable.

My observation (for what it's worth) is that the individuals that are the most content with this car have taken the time to understand it's "strengths and weaknesses".
Definitely test drive ... better yet ... get the dealer to allow it being driven for a "commute" cycle to get the feel of it. That is what I did ... so I had a very good idea going in what to expect.

It's probably the best car for her, and if she likes the styling she'll probably love the car.
The drivetrain is a proven drivetrain that's been out for a few years, so I wouldn't worry too much about the reliability of that. The interior is futuristic and if she likes it and can get used to the mouse control (it's super easy to use) in the navi models, she'll be all set.
Does she have an idea about trim packages yet? There's a base model and a premium model. The base model has an optional sports "Touring" Package that has 2 tone seats and a sports suspension. The Premium model has all the luxury gadgets such as radar cruise/lane keeping assist/etc optional.

Speaking as a former Mini Cooper S owner ( with John Cooper Works package) , the HS is a great replacement car for your mom. As previously stated, the ride in the coopers is really harsh and , frankly, the quality sucks. The Mini may be owned and made by BMW but it's no BMW, that's for sure.

When she had seen the two side by side I can understand why she picked the IS. It is the better looking of the two .

hah it really is! With that said, it's completely subjective to the buyer tho, and the IS does make more sense than the HS "in this case". She's coming from a small sporty hatch. The HS didn't really make sense because not only is it in a more different category than say luxury sport, it's bigger and catered more to a different crowd
