Does anyone know of a glass company or someone on Oahu who does house calls to remove glass scratches? I read on the net that they use a buffing pad and some kind of paste to smooth out the edges of the scratches. I have some scratches that look like they were made by dull cutting blades. Maybe someone cut tints on glass before. Any suggestions or how to idea's are appreciated. Thanks, DanozLS430

I had the same problem in my Corvette. Believe it or not the guy who runs the hot dog stand at CompUSA on Ala Moana Blvd. use to also have a glass scratch removal company. That was about 5 years ago but you might ask. He did a good job for about 1/3 the cost of window replacement.

Thanks for the info Larrym9681. I'll look into that guy when I have a chance. I may even consider buying my own scratch removing kit to remove the scratches on my own glass. It does not look too hard to do and maybe do it as a side business one day if the demand is there.

Consider that anytime you do that type of scratch removal you are messing with the structural integrity of the glass itself. All automotive glass is either tempered of laminated safety glass. Removing anything more than just light surface scratches will run you the risk of driving around with weaker glass. Not to mention it's a slippery slope when you use any fine abrasive or compounding agent on the glass. And the windshield on LS430's are specially coated so you might want to leave that alone too.

You could call Charlie Puka-Pau. He specializes in glass repairs, mostly cracks, but I'm sure you can talk to him about scratches too.

I actually had the glass scratches during shipping of my car. After finding out it will be hard to removed and may affect the glass structural integrity, I had them both the passenger side and rear glass removed and brand new ones installed. My insurance company covered it so it was at no cost to me. I have a small area on another glass that I want to try an remove but it is so minor that I'll probably leave it alone. I heard of a scratch recipe that includes jewelers red rouge polish, glycerin and water combined to make a paste that works great also. I think I'll brew up some and try on a practice glass first.

Bringing back the old thread..

Does anyone know a good auto glass repair shop/person on Oahu aside from the ones mentioned on this thread? (And if anyone has number for Charlie Puka-Pau?) I have a small crack on my windshield that needs to be repaired prior to tinting.

I used Safelite. They are mobile so they come to wherever your car is and do the swap right there. On my old SC, they quoted me $350 or something like that. They searched and couldn't find a used replacment. New replacements from Lexus were $700+. I had a wrecked SC at my dads house so for just labor charge (No warranty though because it was my used glass) they came, removed the windshield from my wrecked SC and installed it on my other SC. I had no complaints with the job done.
