Subaru STi or Mitsubishi Evolution?
Which car would you choose if you had the choice between a Subaru STi and a Mitsubishi Evolutioni VIII? State a simple reason also.

I had a friend down here with an EVO and he had terrible clutch problems and later switch to a WRX. I still think the EVO is a great car but if I had to pick one, that experience tells me the WRX and so far he has had no issues.

STI.... feels slightly more refined inside.
I haven't driven the STI to compare, but i HATE the gearbox on Evo's. The shift feel is rubbery and you seem to have to really jam the shifter into the proper gear (in comparison to a nice honda or bmw manual).

Simple reason: Reliable yet fun as heck to drive!
I bought an 2005 STI last year. I have no regrets. And the reason I chose it over the EVO was due to reliability and quality of ride. I'm not expecting Lexus ride of course!!! I commute with the STI almost everyday so it's gotta be dependable AND exciting to drive too! I don't intend to take it to the track so I don't need razor sharp cornering abilities that the EVO has over the STI. The STI corners well enough for street use. I also don't intend to modify anything either.
The shifter is notchy on the STI too. But I've grown to like it. I use to drive my Acura GSR to work and that shifter was buttery smooth. Just different I guess or is there a specific reason for it?
Funny thing about owning an STI is that I get alot of friendly waves and honks from people I don't even know. Mostly from other Scooby owners but also from EVOs and RX8. It's like we're all friends and family or something. Kinda wierd but it's cool I guess.

Hmm... having no experince driving either of these cars.... I say, based on looks... the EVO, but not the VIII. I don't like the grill. Actually, I don't like the grill on the new STI either.

STi - more reliable brand and parts as well as a more sophisticated AWD system and control of differential.

the evo is faster and looks better. It usually spanks the STI in the Best motoring videos as well

I dont have an Evo but I've driven my friend's EVO VIII.
Ive actually taken it through a couple twisties just to see what all this car was all about. The turbo is not very big but can produce about 20 pounds of boost in a blink of an eye. The factory snail is capable of almost 380HP. The motor itself is capable of about 500HP on the stock block and ECU. The steering angle makes so you dont have to turn the steering a lot like the BMWs. The suspension was really stiff but I did not mind at all. I know that this was a factory designed race car, especially the RS model. Very little to no body roll. The cabin is a bit noisy but when you have that much power who cares. Ive driven a Subaru WRX also but there is just something about the Evolution that wins me over.

The EVO has won every comarison I have seen on the best motoring videos and the magazine comparisons as well. The sti is torqier, but doesnt dance as well as the EVO. The EVO has a slight edge in stock form. In tuned version they both have such a staggereing potential is almost mind blowing

I'd take the STi, primarily because of better build quality. The Evo also, IMO, is too harshly sprung for most street driving.

My friend just got an EVO X. It drives well, but that's about it. Its just way too spartan and basic for my tastes (not that the STI isn't either). I'd take the STI, I like the hatch versatility.
