2014 Lexus GX460 Stock Sound System Upgrade Suggestions??
Hi all - I opted (right or wrong) for the stock 9 speaker sound system from Lexus vs going for the ML upgrade. Having now listened to it, I am not very impressed and probably should have got the upgrade. Are there any suggestions on improving it? Speaker upgrades/etc? Thanks!

I went to a stereo shop and told him I did not want entry-level but I also did not want top of the line. The quote below is to replace the two front tweeters and speakers but not the rear and to add a custom-built Box for a 10 inch woofer to go in the passenger side behind the rear wheel (Looks like he left the tweeters off of the quote).
The speakers are available for $1500. The audio control processor is an analog model, digital model gives better sound tuning options and starts at $600 up to about $1500, he said if I went digital it would take them about four hours to fine-tune it and give me three sound options for the type of music I am listening to (rock, rap etc.)
For you ML owners,he said that is the best stock system out there.
Side note, I just installed iOS8.0 on my iPad Air and could not upload the picture

I've never heard the stock system, but... damn... love the sound of the mark levinson...very tight. Pop in a movie..and it's like a theatre. My Benz has Bose, and I think this car sounds way way better... and I'm no audiophile... wife caught the geek in me watch a movie in the car the other day.

Wow that is crazy expensive...making me wish I had opted for ML. I figured with the 3 little ones I wouldn't be listening to much more then "frozen" so decided it was a lux item I didn't need. Anyway - I tweaked it a bit with Pandora and managed to get out some pretty decent sound to put a smile back on my face. I just thought we were technologically at a point where single speakers produced the sound of many...I guess that is just home theater.

Yes, I am discouraged with the price as well. I may check out another shop to get some options.

that quote that guy gave you was for top of the line stuff.. audio control eq, and diamond speakers are for serious audiophiles. which it doesnt sound like what you guys are after.
all factory speakers are made with paper or cheap "plastic" just by replacing the speakers will give you a much better sound, the key is to replace with mid level products. the high end products require serious wattage, which the stock system cannot push.
i would say spending $400 to $500 would get you guys where you want to be.

I honestly can't tell that much difference. This is my first car with ML. It sounds "better", but not for whatever price tag they put on it.

I am planning on the installation this weekend.
I have Kenwood speakers that I am going to compare with the Infitys on the dash.
ServiceGuy,
Any comments before I proceed?

i think that the kenwoods will sound better with the stock radio. the "PEAK POWER" is probably lower, so the recommended "continuous" power is probably lower as well. and the stock radio is not a real powerhouse as far as wattage is concerned.
i see the peak power is 330w and 225w respectively, not saying that they need that much power, but its an indication that it would require a good external amp
edit: why did you decide against the tweeters? did they not fit? or did lexus not give it its own wiring?

The rear adapters I ordered were not correct. The correct part should be here any day now. I returned the speakers after some testing and started over with lower wattage models. I installed the front speakers over a week ago and I can tell a difference.
The DIY is coming soon.
