2013 GX here. Wife has been driving it for ~18 months. The first two at 5000, and 10000 miles schedule maintenance are complimentary by Lexus. The 15000 miles scheduled maintainance is coming up. I read theservice manual, most of the recommended service are inspection, except for the tire rotation. I have not checked the dealer for the price, but I am sure I will be quoted for a 'Lexus Premium'. So my questions to you guys, do you go to dealer for this 15000 miles maintainence? Is it necessary since most of things covered can be self checked? How about 20K, 25k, 30k etc.? We drove the car pretty gentally, no off-road, no towing thus far, so the car is in great shape. Just want to check what is your experience in terms of the Lexus recommended schedule maintenance for the GX. This is our first Lexus, we owned a 4runner before though. Thanks a bunch.

The free ones, all the rest do on your own, don't worry about warranty, they can't void anything unless they can prove your maintenance or lack of caused the issue. Too many people are scared of Lexus and warranty, as long as you properly maintain it there will be no issues with warranty, remember, it's only a Toyota and you can't kill them.

I agree, I live 110 miles each direction from my dealer and my local Toyota dealer can do oil
changes and maintenance also for a lot less money. For the big services, I pick what I want done from the list. A lot of that stuff is a profit center for the dealerships.

Lexus wanted to do a complete brake fluid flush at 30k, that's way overkill at 30k. IMO totally profit for unnecessary work.

So want are the must-do's at the dealership and at which early interval 15 20 30k etc.? Oil change is a must every 10k miles but can be a DYI. I know the answer depends on individual situation such as how the vehicle is used and the driving style. But I want to know from you guys who have owned the GX for more than a few years

In my opinion, there are no must do at the dealers. Use the dealer for warranty repairs, otherwise DIY or local service center that you trust.

I agree with using dealer for warranty work. I also use dealer for oil changes when I get a coupon from Lexus for discount also like using loaner vehicle. I was in dealer in July having battery replaced under warranty when I overheard service advisor telling older gentlemen it was imperative to have cabin filter replaced ($79.95) whis is simple DIY that costs about $15.

When the warranty runs out....Goodbye overpriced dealer.There are many good specialist out there with better prices.

I would have the dealer do the timing belt at 100k miles. Other than that, can handle all misc. maintenance myself including brakes, plugs, oil, etc. Some things can be killer to do yourself, such as having to change out the rear charcoal canister. Don't you know they put it above the rear differential where you can't get to it without dropping the rear axle??
