Funny that you mention "twisty roads". It just so happens that I had to drive through the north Georgia mountains that day and I pushed the GX quite hard (broke traction a couple of times).

I noticed the crack 30 minutes later and thought I may have caused a stress crack. When I examined it I could clearly see the impact of a rock.

It originated in the black area so I may have not seen it before.

I went to Safelite today to get the windshield replaced. I was brought into the shop by the head tech to confirm the minor scratches around the front of the truck were there before the installer worked on it.

I mentioned the concerns on this forum, he smirked and said the quality and thickness is the same.
I sat in the waiting room with a clear view of the installation and was impressed.

When I went to pay the original installer the $37? quote (tax included) he dropped it down to $352 without me asking for a discount (possibly a gimmick).
I told him about the shop that said he could not get his techs to touch the Lexus truck. He said the GX is easy but the LX has rivets on the side and it is easy to break the glass.

Overall, it was a good experience with Safelite

Sounds like a great deal Tecman. Let us know if you notice any wind noise or other concerns. Thanks for the update.

Default gx460 windshield

first post in 8 years! so my windshield has a crack with less that 5000 miles on it. what is this attached to the windshield? it has a wire running into the car. it is on the roof of the passenger side front windshield.

I don't have that on my 2014. What year is your GX? Looks like it could be something for an alarm,-motion, glass breakage, or occupancy sensor.

Do you have the pre-collision/adaptive cruise l/lane keeping package? If so I think it is some sort of radar or camera.

Did you buy this new or used? This looks like an aftermarket device. The diamond shape squiggly lines are stuck on the windshield?

Default Windshield problem

Found two hairline scratches in my windshield today. Right in my field of vision. My guess is some of the grit they put on the roads during the big snows these past two weeks got trapped under the wiper blades due to the shape of the scratches. Does anyone know if a detail shop or replacement glass place can buff them out? I know my Sequoia had what is called hydrophilic glass and I worry that buffing might ruin it if the GX has it too. Anyone have any experience with this or advice - much appreciated!
