Default GX460 worth the upgrade?

My mom is obsessed with the GX460 even though we currently have the GX470 and it's awesome. She keeps hinting at upgrading or saying this is our next car.

So guys what do you think is better in the 460 and what was better in the 470?

Default Yes, go for it.

I had two 470, and two 460, now third 460, new model.

Some things are better, like comfort, heated stearing wheel, etc, and some are bad, like they put a chain in the engine, more noise.

What do you think are improvements from the 470 on the 460?

She's test drove the 460 many times.

IMO the 460 interior is much better than the 470. I love my sepia leather.....the 470 looks skinny and tall for my taste. I love timing chain, suppose to last well pass 120-150k miles. LED headlights/drl are sexy and mean-looking, had LED headlights on my RX450h but it looks much better on the 460. I prefer the spindle grill on the 2014+ over the 10-13. Gas mileage is supposed to be little better, not much.

I love the blizzard pearl on the 470 and wish they have that on the 460 instead of Starfire pearl.

Never thought I would be interested in a GX as I also found the first gen skinny and tall. Those things you mentioned along with the fogs make the new one really attractive and a good buy IMO. The ride is comfortable too.

Thanks for that info. I wasn't sure if I had a belt or chain and don't recall seeing that in previous threads.I feel better now

A 2014 460 is a huge improvement over a 470 in every way. The 470 was a nice truck, but nothing lasts forever and today its outdated stylistically, technologically, etc.

Only modern engines do. 2UZ-FE used in GX 470 has a timing belt.

They resisted timing chains at Lexus for years because of noise. Our 98 LS, 03 ES, 04 LS all had timing belts. 10 ES, 13GS use chains.

As other have stated:
  • Interior - layout, leather, configuration
  • Seating - way more roomier for tall folks / specifically the driver's seat
  • Features - Nav, ML, LEDs, 3rd row integration
  • Engine - great V8 with upward potential
  • Suspension - KDSS standard
  • Cargo space
  • Drive Train

Note that I had a 470 sport edition that had KDSS and RSES + Nav/ML so this was the ultimate fully loaded model at the time and loved the black wood interior, but the seating sucked - couldn't go back far enough for the driver (this is an issue with all older Toyota's as well), had issues with brakes/specifically rotor issues, front suspension problems, the overall height/narrowness of the truck made it worthless without KDSS which really helped counter sway - I really liked that many of the features I had in a 2006 truck were no different from what I would get today so it was ahead of its time - key difference is the way these solutions are presented now are so much more intuitive and easy to use.

My two cents...
