I am preparing for a 6,000 mile road trip with my 2014 GX and would appreciate any suggestions as to what to be prepared for, and have on board. How good and timely is Lexus roadside assistance? Any experience or hint to share on "Fix-a-Flat" or "Ride-On" in case of a flat? Thank you.

You didn't tell us about your road trip, but unless it includes an off-road segment there isn't much you need to do to go 6,000 miles. You presumably will want to change the oil and filter shortly before you depart, plus rotate the wheels and align both ends. In other words, do a full service sooner rather than later.

With regard to Lexus roadside assistance ... works great if you need it near a major city with a Lexus dealership, but AAA may be a better choice. Try the former, but fall back on the latter.

Is there any reason that your 6,000 mile road trip is any different than driving 6,000 miles, e.g., road conditions, speed, altitude, weather, etc? If so, prepare for those specific risks, but fundamentally the GX is about as reliable a vehicle as exists, plus you are starting out with a new one. We take 6,000 mile road trips twice a year ... it just takes us longer than yours ;-)

Agree with Sanidel. Just general things like oil and tires. I always load up a 32GB USB key with things I want to listen to and plug that into to stereo. Stock up the car with goodies and have a great time! But can't you take a 6,000 mile trip and never leave the Great State. of Texas!

Great time to track your mpg too and see where you can save by adjusting your driving, using cruise control, etc. Carry a blanket and pillows, check your spare, have flares/reflcetive anything and a great mini-flashlight. And every charger for every device your're gonna take.

When I prepare for any trip over 300 miles, I ensure I have the following in the vehicle:

1) A flashlight (the cheap chinese LED's work great), if you don't want to carry a large rechargeable Mag Light.
2) Basic all purpose leather palm work gloves. If you have to change a flat, having these makes spinning the tools in your hands a heck of lot easier, and allows you to stay relatively clean.
3) Disposable blanket. Works great as a kneepad if you have to change the tire, and also doubles as a blanket in wet and cold. (Find a friend who works Police or EMS and ask them for one).
4) Two all purpose red rags. Can't go wrong with something to wipe you hands or fluid on.
5) Check the air pressure in all your tires, including your spare. Most people and shops forget the spare, and its not fun to have a brand new tire and rim under the truck and find out its half full when you need it.

Lastly, enjoy the ride! The GX will not dissapoint. I would not recomend fix a flat, as it will not be healthy for the TPMS in the wheel.

aside from the great list that other members mentioned. Whenever I do a road trip, I usually spend some time to go thru the map and marking down stores/shops that would come in handy along the way. Technologies are great but I always have hard copies on the side just in case.

Our 3 month old, 2014 GX has only about 1400 miles on it and we are taking it on a 1300 mile trip in a few weeks. It isn't near due for the first service. Should I bring it in anyhow and check the fluids before the trip?

Exactly what I plan on doing. I just need to make sure to have emergency equipments, medical emergency kit, "defensive" tools, spare key and credit cards!
