Default GX460 Rear Fog Light

Well guys, I got orders to England and now I have to put a rear fog light on my '14 GX460. Anyone have experience with this or know how?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Cheers,
Tommy

The Euro spec Prado has a rear fog light installed in the bumper, where the reverse light and reflector are in the US model. Seems like it would be possible ("easy") to swap in a housing that takes a light bulb, and then wire it to a switch so that you could turn it on/off.

It doesn't look like the same configuration. Maybe I am missing something?

Yea - you're right. I was only looking at the parts diagram and didn't see the subtle difference in the location on the rear bumper plastic.

OP - Looks like you're going to need a customization of some kind. Maybe a light bulb located behind your existing reflector that's wired to a switch, or a standalone? Unfortunately the reverse light that is already located in that bumper area isn't very useful since it'll only get power when the car is shifted into reverse, but you could at least build a bracket off of it to hold another light bulb? Just throwing out ideas....

I haven't had a chance to remove that lamp yet but I wouldn't be suprised if the red area in the drivers side reverse light housing has provisions already for a bulb that you can just knock out. Then you would have to run wiring for a switch to control the light itself.

Thanks all for your suggestions. I'm just going to see what is available when I get into country. If anything, I'll make something cool work. Standby for pics/write-up...

What did you end up doing to add a rear fog light?

I'm going to be importing a GX460 into Germany in the next 12 months and I too will need a rear foglight.

You can get an OEM blinker stock, which controls front and rear fogs -- you then will need a wiring diagram of the pin output from the stock, a relay and about 15' of 16 AGU wire, electrical tape and that should do it.

I'll keep this bookmarked and amend as necessary.

Now anyone got any fun ideas as to swap the gauge cluster from MPH cluster to a exclusively KPH cluster without going to the dealer and paying with my first-born?

Best,

Gat

Replacing the stalk with a rear fog switch would be ideal. Since mine would be a temporary import into the UK, I'm considering running a wire from one of the front fog lights to the back and install LED bulbs (which draw very low current). I did this over 10 years ago with another vehicle when the UK regs (at the time, and presumably the same now) allowed for the rear fog light to activate concurrently with the front. All I would need then is the wire, bulb holders, a hole drill to drill into the lower red housings.

The above is not the way I'd prefer to do the conversion but would be the simplest.

My GX has HID lights, from what I understand a headlight washer is required which mine doesn't have. Additionally, I would have to replace the LHD HID projector housings with a RHD version.. From past experience, some cars' headlights in the UK have a lever in the headlight housing to switch from LHD to RHD use.

As far as the gauge cluster for your situation, perhaps a KMs overlay would work? As you probably know, the GX is officially sold in Russia so perhaps they are sold with KMs on the speedometer.

I look forward to how this plays out for you. I may end up selling the GX instead of bringing it to the UK.

You must have aftermarket HIDs as the '10-'13 Premiums with HIDs have the headlight washers.

I don't believe mine is the Premium version. It's described as 9700A on the window sticker. Mine doesn't have the air suspension either. The HID is shown as a stand alone option on my original window sticker.

Attached is a scan of part of the original window sticker.

Thanks! Learn something new every day. I didn't realize AFS could be obtained as a standalone option.

Looks like there might even be some rare '11 non-premium models out there with individual pieces of Driver Support Package (or the long names on pre-refresh models)

Looks like '12 & '13 they made it Premium requirement of the other packages I listed above but you could still get AFS on a base as well.

Default Rear Facing Fog Light

Anyone install/mod a rear facing fog light on their second generation GX 460? In the same light housing as the back up light? Specifically, a 2021. Thanks.

I did on a 12, should be the same exact process even with the different part number.
