Default Cargo space - actual number?

I have read 30 articles and reviews on the 2013 GX460 that include interior specs. 17 of them list the actual cargo space with the third and second rows folded as between 90.4 and 92 cubic feet with 91.9 as the most common figure. The other thirteen articles (and the Lexus Brochure) give the same area as between 54.2 and 66 cubic feet. What is the actual number and why is this so difficult to calculate?

I got 91.9cf with second and third row down and 64.7cf with third row down for the 2014. I believe it is the same for the 2013. It is probably hard to find because it is less space than it's competitors.
I started a thread a couple weeks ago asking what others thought and got some good info.

It was just confusing because for example Edmunds said 60 's while JD Power said 90's, etc. could you add a link to your info? I know it's less than my Sequioa but looks about the same as my 4Runner.

Here is one from Kelley:
http://www.kbb.com/lexus/gx/2014-lex...409#spec-table
It is less than the 4-Runner space. I did several comparisons and was shocked that the GX came out less. Still I found a way to deal with it. They do NOT make it easy. I had to look at several reviews and specs from different web pages to figure it out.

Edmunds likely took stock Lexus numbers which are measured with the second row seats up. 90 cu feet is with second row seats down.

GX460 indeed has less cargo space compared to competitors but that's because it has SRA in the rear plus it's BOF so the floor plan sits on top of the frame. I'd take that over a unibody softroader with IRS any day of the week (though, of course, it's a matter of priorities).

I think there will be plenty of room , since there is just the wife and I, but we do haul a bunch of stuff to the beach house sometimes. Of course, since I bought it last week, it's a mute point I guess, LOL. I was just bewildered by all the different measurements from all the different reviews. Thanks and Merry Christmas.

Yep, same for us. We only need the extra room when we go to the cottage. We will solve that with a Stowaway carrier or a cargo trailer.
Merry Christmas and Enjoy the ride!

The third row seat is an option in some markets (never have seen one without in USA) and the resulting floor would be lower...more cargo space. Perhaps the various articles you found were using Press Kits that had the conflicting data.

I am confused also. I am trying to compare the cargo, volume in my 09 with that in a 14. I think part of it is a new engineering society standard. But the RX volume hasn't changed at 80.7. When I go look at the '14 I plan to take my large storage tubs with me to see if they stack as well in the '14

They raised the floor 6" to stow the third row seats. That is where they lost cargo space. I can't fit a bike in standing up with the front wheel of anymore.

Tale of the tape... 2002 - 2009's measure "38from cargo floor to hatch header, 2010 - ? measure "34
The width of the hatch opening is still "45 at the floor and the reach to the 2nd row seats is still "38
The obvious difference is the width across with seats stowed, the newer style is "56 vs. "28!
Simple enough to slip them out and wrap 'em up and stash them in the attic until you trade it in, right?

Consumer Reports also does an interesting test. They make a pipe box and expand it until it fits into the space including fitting thru the rear door. The numbers online are 2004 GX470 39.5 cubic ft, 2010 GX460 and 2014 GX460 are 36.5 cubic ft.

Has anyone seen documentation on removing the rear 3rd row seat. While it may not be easy, it would be worth it. I come from an 11 4-Runner which has substantially more space behind the second row seat.

Default The third row folds flat.

Why would anyone remove the third row? Makes absolutely no sense.
