5,000 Mile Service Questions
I have several questions regarding the 5,000 mile service. The dealer where we bought it told us that one and the 10,000 mile service are free. Would this be the case no matter which dealer we take it to?
We currently have the GX on an island where there is no Lexus dealer. Taking it to one would be a hassle and a $400 round-trip ferry ride.
We have 4,500 miles on it and will put another 1,000 or so on before we start driving in a month to our main house, which is 1,000 miles away. We will be stopping for a few days halfway there (this is beginning to sound like one of those math story problems) and could have the service done then. The only issue is that it will be pretty loaded with stuff and also have a hitch-mounted cargo carrier on it. FWIW, it will have been in service for six months and a few weeks by the time we get back to our main house.
It looks like the first service is mainly checking fluids and rotating tires. Is it OK to wait until 6,500 miles to have it done? Should we have it done at 6,000 miles halfway through our drive or does an extra 500 miles not matter? The cargo carrier is only used each 1,000-mile trip to and from, and the car is not garaged here. There is some dust, and while we usually drive on dirt/sand roads, we haven't done much of that this year and probably won't. Virtually all trips are more than five miles and, as noted, about 1/3 of the mileage will be highway driving with a bit of a load. We do not drive it on the beach.
All advice appreciated.

It shouldn't matter, Lexus calls for 10,000 mile oil changes. I change mine once a year, or every 5000 miles, it's up to you. I think the 5000 mile service is just rotating and balancing your wheels.
