Default front center cupholder 2011 GX 460

Hi Guys,
I have a 2011 GX 460. LOVE this machine!!! Unfortunately the front center cupholder is fine, but the mechanism that makes the wood swings in and out from top of the cupholder is cracked. The wood is fine, but the plastic gears I am told is crack so it does not latch on all the way still opens and closes butu can see the plastic gears in the back. Any sugestions on how to fix this? I am told by the dealer that I will have to replace the whole cupholder, which is crazy. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Shouldn't this be covered by the warranty?

I'd check with Lexus again. If you have a Lexus driver's account, you can email them. They usually respond fast (within 1-2 days in my experience).

What is a lexus driver's account? What is disturbing to me is that, the piece is plastic and cracked upon opening it, to replace it is $700. Any suggestions, the whole piece is fine, just latch on back of the wood?
Thanks

www.LexusDrivers.com. You should have an email from Lexus with a temporary username or password. If you dont't have that email, I guess you can register an account yourself. You will use it to manage eDestinations.

Anyways, actually you can just contact them directly:

http://www.lexus.com/contact/index.html

Call, email or chat.

I would just say the entire cup holder is defective. You made it sound like just a small thing, but if that small piece causes the entire unit not to work to its specs, then the entire unit is defective.

I would be really surprised if Lexus refuses to cover it.

Mine has also developed a "click" in the back and catches when closing - am guessing is about to go; design defect (less than 10K miles)?

Lexus did finally get back to me, and they indicated that they will cover 50% of the cost for the cupholder which runs 600. I am disappointed as this is clearly a design defect and lexus should have stepped up to the plate and acknowledged this is a design defect, which could happen again. I am disappointed with Lexus and their product. Mercedes and BMW stand by their product much better than this. Any feedback would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks

I noticed the same click this morning. It was cooler here, about 48F. Later this afternoon I opened and closed the cup holder and there was no sound, it was about 80F in the car.

So they don't think it is under warranty. Is that it?

You could write back - thank you, but that's not good enough. There is nothing wrong to state firmly and politely that that is not what you expect from Lexus when compared with other luxury brands.

Finally you can always try the social media tools like Twitter (@Lexus) or Facebook.

Contact Lexus Corporate and give them a chance to fix the problem. If that fails contact state's Attorney General's office and ask for the Consumer Protection division. Explain your situation to them, there will be paperwork. Their office will contact Lexus. They will be given 15 or 20 business days to formally respond to the Attorney General's office. If all fails, pay the 50% and file a small claims law suit. I don't see Lexus sending a lawyer for $300. Good Luck!

Anybody know or did disassemble Front Center Cupholder on 2010 GX460?
I have some stuff (credit card and other thin stuff) dropped into cupholder (underneath cupholder lid). Dealer said take at least $200+ for the job. Great appreciated if anybody here can show some pictures.
