Default Dealer Addons for GX 460

So a dealer was trying to sell me a long list of add-ons on a new 460. I wondered if you guys had any of them and if so, what your experience/opinion is. My own comments are in the parens.

1. Extended Warranty ... $2400 for 6yrs/100K or 3350 for 7 yrs/100K. If you don't incur any warranty services during the extended period, you get all money back at the end (Looks like most posters declined it while some thought it was a good idea).

2. Prepaid Maintenance ... $4215 for all scheduled maintenance work for 5yrs/75. (Does it really cost that much to maintain it??)

3. LoJack $799 ... (Called my insurance company. Would get roughly $20-30 off the premium so this is definitely a pass :-)).

4. Tire/Rims coverage, $995 for 5 years

5. Simoniz ... a paint/leather coating. $899 with 7 years warranty (didn't find much info in this forum. googled it and found most people said it's a scam).

That is it!

if someone jacked my gx, i dont want it back, period...who knows what they have done to it

the rims are a joke. you can get a new set of T4R rims for less than that...and they look better than these

rest is definitely a waste

I live in Canada, but the dealer addons are basically the same. My dealer told me NOT to get the extended warranty; he said it's a waste of money!

My thoughts too. While on the topic of the extended warranty, the dealer told me a couple of horror stories about someone having to spend thousands on repairing right after the factory warranty expired. I was like "are you trying to tell me not to buy a lexus at all?"

Hold on here. If you get your money back if you don't use it. why not do it. Why not consider that 2400 your deductible. So, after the traditional 4/50 is over, if it is a repair that is covered and under 2400, why report it..pay out of your own pocket, then eventually since you have reported anything, get your money back.

I asked exactly the same questions to the dealer. She said she has never seen any cheap warranty work if it ever comes. If the total warranty repairs is <= 2400, it makes sense to pay it all out of pocket. But you don't know that beforehand.

My old RX300 had less than a few hundred dollars repair (warranty or not) before 100K. After that, it is mostly wear and tear, old parts falling apart. But I have not experience with a GX yet.

Why not just wait until the factory warranty is near expiration before you buy the extended warranty. Plus if you buy from someone like Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota as mentioned on the forums here, you can get the extended warranty for a good bit less than you are quoting with the same deal about getting your money back but I don't believe you get all of your money back, it is prorated based on time I believe.

Yeah, skip all of them and like Pat said you can get the same warranty much cheaper elsewhere. It's just a profit center for the finance guy and the dealership...

If the Stealer is trying to sell it, beware!

If you want the extended warranty wait till the last month before it is not available. If you need to sell or it gets totaled you will not loose pro-rated refund money.
