if you slam on the brake, then yes, it will provide extra force and stop rather violently, but it shouldnt let go of the brake where you have to press it again. Ive had it happen several times and the suv stops. Its frightening when you first encounter it. EBD has been around for awhile. Its on our 2005 g35x.

Are you sure you didnt just let go of brake because you were startled by the reaction?

Yup, sounds normal, mine does the same thing, kinda feels out of control but yet it stops real well for its size and weight.

You should see what happens the first time the PCS is engaged. Freaked me out with the with the chimes and the word Brake in huge letters in the display on the dash. Glad I know what it looks like.

Thank you all for the input. I definitely feel better now. Sounds like I'm just not used to this type of emergency breaking system. Thanks again!!!

so how exactly does that work. it detects in front of you and warns you to stop? Does it apply some brake pressure? Will be getting this on my gx

I would suggest you have the dealer check the brake booster. If it's slightly leaking it would lead to increased 'force' required by you to stop but it doesn't necessarily mean that the car would take longer to stop. Like power steering. Without it it is harder to steer but the car can still make all the same turns with or with out it.

That Lexus trying to coverup an underdesigned brake system. I am the originator of this thread. I just turned in that 2010 GX for a 2014 GX had what a diference. The Calipers are twice the size of the 2010 and it stops on a dime! It also dosen't creep at lights anymore.

DO BELEIVE THE HYPE...

thats totally bogus.
your front pistons and calipers are the same size going from a 2010 to 2014 and is shared among other toyota vehicles including 4runner. I didnt check the rears but that doesnt provide the major stopping power.
They may have a different brake booster or master cylinder system installed that would improve braking dynamics.

heres a diagram of front brakes. same parts for 2010-2014

Having owned a 1996 Land Cruiser, 2003 Prado and now 2012 GX 460, I assure you I've experienced this issue in all of these cars particularly that 1996 LC.

On the issue of paddle travel, am certain it has nothing to do with off-roading, but rather to do with countering the excusive nose dive during braking events. Emergency braking in Lexus GX 460 or even LX 570 feels dramatic when I compare it with my old 2005 Range Rover. Even more dramatic/hilarious when EBD+Pre-collision is in action, the whole car squats; absolutely no where close nor gives confidence as it's German rivals or the land rovers do.

It's a classic issue in most of Toyota's SUVs. You may get used to it .. but certainly in a stop n go traffic you will need to always keep the extra distance.

I just installed new front rotors and pads. That seemed to help somewhat.

Default Brake pedal noise

My new GX460 has 120 miles now, and starting today, I heard noise when pushing the brake pedal. After get the parking lot, I turned off engine, and used hand to push the brake pedal, I can hear same noise, which like a air or gas squeeze out. Seems not big deal to me, just like to see do you GX460 owner have similar thing or I need to to dealer again

I hear the same thing from our 2011 which we bought used. We also have the creep at stop lights. I just had to replace a brake booster in our other car and I have been wondering if this is the same issue. I will be interested to see what happens here.

Have tried to take it back to the dealer and see if all the other new ones make the same noise? My Chrysler has never made this noise.

Mine makes the squish noise as well. I believe it is normal on the GX. That said, at first it drove me nuts as I think it sounds like something is wrong. I'm used to it now.
