On Saturday I will have my roof rails attached to the car. I was wondering how the rails fasten to the car? I see some openings in the rails but these are to access the bolts on the rails. Once the rails are installed is it possible to adjust the location of the rails forward and aft?

You can adjust the location of rails. There should be an indication point as well where you should not move past it. You will get a tool to unscrew a bolt so you can move rails.

roof rails are already on the suv. They are dinky imho and I wonder whether they can be swapped out for ones like on the 4runner. They are bolted down pretty hard to the roof from what i hear.

The cargo cross bars are an accessory.

My question to you, which are you referring to? I think you are talking about the cross bars right?

What I have described above are the cross bars. Sorry. I assumed that everyone get rails as it is STD.
