J. D. Power and Associates® Vehicle Quality Survey
We were selected and have returned a J. D. Power survey for our 2010 GX 460. The survey form arrived exactly three months after our purchase so this presumably is their influential "Initial Quality" survey that attracts so much attention in the automotive media. The survey was eight pages, took almost an hour to complete and would have taken much longer if there were problems to report.
Our opinion of the overall quality of our vehicle was "Truly Exceptional" ... J. D. Power's top category. We had nothing to report in the three-page "Things Gone Wrong" section of the survey as our GX was delivered in perfect condition and we have found nothing to change our opinion ... no, not even the recall for the software update. We saw no evidence of that purported problem before the update and no change after the update ... for all intents and purposes, it was a nonevent. Besides, we appreciate all the attention that our dealership lavished on us, not to mention the free car wash, gas and new mats.
The survey asked our opinion of each vehicle system, i.e., what we like and don't like about our vehicle. We gave "Truly Exceptional" ratings to all areas of the vehicle except for braking (requires too much effort), the 3rd row seats (obviously not as comfortable as the front seats) and the problem of loading and unloading cargo with a side-swing rear door. Our overall opinion of our vehicle was one 'notch' down from their "Truly Exceptional" rating.
The survey encouraged us to describe what we like the most and the least and especially to suggest improvements. No surprise ... we recommended that Lexus change the design of the rear door to a split lift/drop gate like on the LX 470/570!
The survey asked questions we did not expect, but they provide an indication as to what J. D. Power is interested in measuring. They asked my height and weight, the vehicles we seriously considered before choosing the GX, the price we paid, the miles we have driven, the mileage we get and extensive demographic information (age, marital status, education, income and whether we have children living with us).
They also asked permission to solicit our opinions for future research projects by email and by telephone, which permission we granted and which contact information we provided. I'll advise the forum if we get surveyed again about the 2010 GX 460.
Regards,
SaniDel
P.S. Yes, we did get a dollar for our participation! ;-)

There's a Canadian version of the survey too, except it's done by Maritz Research. I've just filled out my survey today, with all positive feedback.
For once, Canadians get paid more than Americans; instead of $1USD, the research company is giving out $5CAD (~$4.83USD)!

I've filled out their survey before here in the U.S. They also had $1 in the envelope.
