Lexus de-tunes the 4.6 engine in the GS460 compared to the LS460.....Also, some overseas markets get the 5.7 Lexus LX570 with a de-tuned 362 hp rating....not sure why.....so it has been done.

And to get a engine that is detuned... I think that doesn't worth the money

Independent Rear Suspension (IRS)...
I'm not sure why Lexus/Toyota have so many engines with so many different HP/tq ratings. This was not the case a couple years ago. The 4.7 V8 got 268hp in the LX470 and GX470. Lexus still sold a lot of LX's even though the HP was the same as the GX. Same thing with the LS430 and GS430. Both got 298hp and people still bought the LS.
Now the LX570 gets 383hp and 403tq vs the Toyota motor that gets 381hp and 401tq. This makes sense as engineers were able to get 2hp/2tq extra tuning due to premium fuel. What happened to the GX... GX460 301hp and 329tq vs the Toyota motor that get 310hp and 327tq. So the Lexus engine loses 9 hp being tuned to run on premium fuel. It does gain 2tq, but still loses 9 hp. The Lexus GS460 gets 342hp and 339tq. So the GS gets an extra 10tq @3600 vs 3500 for the GX, but gets a whopping 41hp more. Neither the GS or GX have direct injection like the LS so that makes sense why the LS motor get 380hp/367tq. So what happened to the GX motor. Why is it so weak compared to the GS 4.6. Please don't say it's tuned for a truck since the torque peak is only 100 rpms higher.

Facts:
- The GX460 has KDSS standard, something which was extremely rare to find or even get on the 1st-gen GX470.
- The GX460 is more capable off-road than the GX470.
- The GX460 is more comfortable on-road than the GX470.
- The GX460 has more luxury features and a unique interior compared to the GX470, which shared a virtually identical interior with the previous-gen Prado.
- The GX460 has better fuel economy than the GX460, while achieving higher HP and torque.
You're basically asking for a Lexus LX570, only a slightly smaller version of it.
IRS would not make sense. If you want all this, just go get a Sequoia then.
Sounds like the GX never was, and really isn't the vehicle for you. It sounds like you're criticizing the GX just for the sake of criticizing.

I don't feel any under power on the GX at all, I don't even put my foot down, for normal everyday driving, that is way enough, you r not using the truck to race, and even give you that 9 hp, will that make much different? there isn't much different even have a 20 more hp.
You want an engine do the job efficiently, not just more POWER!

The point is, even 6500lbs towing capacity is way enough for most of the people, what are you going to tow actually? A boat is usually around 2000 - 3000 lbs depends on size.
The only people will use that much towing capacity will be those who work at the ranch, and which they will need a real truck for those environment not a luxury car.
Please give me some examples in the urban environment that will need to tow something over 6000 lbs, I never tow stuff before so I'm not good at those.
And facts told us if you really need to tow heavy stuff, all car can handle almost twice the list towing capacity, at least Toyota truck can.
Please don't tell me you want extra power so when you towing heavy stuff you can go faster, even with my limited knowledge on towing know that will not happening and not safe.

What might not come across in my posts is that I really like the GX and want to get one. I love the interior. I'm just afraid that I will not be able to deal with the swing gate, and the engine seems weak to me especially for the price.

Didn't you ask what IRS was? I didn't say that it was important to me. It isn't... I have an issue with the swing door and I think the engine is underpowered for the price point.

I have not driven one either, going this Saturday, but from the HP/Torque, tranny and weight of the vehicle, it should be more than ample for the use intended. The GX was never meant to be a race car.
