Default What kind of gas mileage are you getting??

I was just wondering what kind of gas mileage some of you other folks are getting. I have only 450 miles on my GX and it's getting an average of 10 mpg in the city and a MAXIMUM of 15.5 hwy. I am manually calculating the mpg and not going by the onboard computer as I've found that the computer reads on the high side.

The GX is advertised to get 15 city and 18 hwy but as you can see, I am getting far from that. What really concerns me more is I am driving the car extremely conservatively and taking it EXTREMELY easy. I hate to think what kind of gas mileage I will get once I start driving it normally.

Few questions:

What did you get when your GX had under 1000 miles?

What are you getting now?

Are you basing these results by the onboard computer or did you do the math?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mitsu

I did first 600 miles with a long trip driving in about 45-65 range with variable speeds to follow break-in. I got 16.6mpg measured.

Currently I have about 4.5k and am getting about 17.2mpg *measured* for my daily driving which is about 70/30 highway/city. The computer shows "average" 19.4mpg, "range" 381 right after fillup which gradually drops to about 357 when its time to fillup.

I think I was getting around 16mpg for the same daily driving up until I had approx 3k miles.

Thumbs up

14-16 is about all they will do, measured in 5500K, commputer shows 17.5 - 18.5 but they read high. It is set up that way so the guy that does not take time to figure the actual tells his friends he gets 19-20 lol.

Hi lexite, thanks for the detailed response. Just one question though....when you say that you get about 357 when it's time to fill up, how many gallons is it taking to top it off at that time?

Let me clarify-
Right after a fillup the computer "range" shows around 381
When its time to fillup again, (actual miles driven) + range = 357 (approx)
Most recent fillup: odo=4.6k, actual miles driven = 316, gas fillup=18.58 gal

It's pretty brutal. I get around 15.5 in mixed driving and a bit over 16 on longer trips.

Running regular gas drops it by around .5 MPG.

Nasty!

Ours has 9K on it now and it has averaged 18.6mpg on premium gas (18.2 according to the computer, so ours does not read high like modelaford suggests. This is a higher number than I expected, but the car has done most of its 9k on long runs (>300 miles) visiting my dying father-in-law. Before we started our mecy runs we were seeing an average of 15.9mpg. These numbers are not that good, but they are a lot better than those recorded by our '00 Land Crusier that this replaced!

Getting between 14.4 and 17.4mpg, pretty good cause my past vehicle I was getting an average of 13 or slightly lower driving the same way, pedal to the floor almost constantly, no long road trips to see if I get 22/24-26mpg like my last Sport Ute,

Smile mileage

I'm getting about 17mpg on our first tank of gas since we just picked ours up this past saturday. Mostly country road driving...not too bad since our RX was getting about 20-21. I figure we'll get better mileage as we break it in.

When I first got my gx, my first fill-up at 52 miles was averaging about 9 mpg. Just take it easy in the first 1k miles. Now when I take it out of town, sometimes I even get 20mpg. That's running about 65-75 mph. All these figures are manually calculated by me.

I have 1800 miles on my car. I use regular unleaded and have calculated 15 mpg average, includes both city and freeway driving (50/50 mix). Hopefully will improve some.

What kind of gas does everyone use in their GX470? Isn't the recommendation is for 91 octane +? What kind of damage would you do to the engine if you continue to use regular unleaded fuel?

No damage whatsoever using regular, the 4.7L is better suited to run on regular the only thing it does with premium is use more gas and benefit the oil companies
