Default GX 470 problems

This is the 5th Lexus we have owned since my first SC400 in 1992 and the first one with any significant problems. The car is two weeks old and has spent one week at the dealership with them while they search for a fix of the air conditioner. The air conditioner cycles between blasts of cold air and then alternately hot air. They determined after allegedly speaking to the Lexus Tech support people that the plates they installed on the underside of the motor (to keep mud and other debris out) prevents this motor from getting adequate ventilation resulting in a cooling system that builds up pressure and then cycles too rapidly and shuts itself off. They have supposedly created a fix but I am none the less cautious and trying not to find imaginary things wrong with the vechicle. The dealership said that if I wasn't happy they'd replace the car with another but I have to admit I am having a terrible case of the woulda, shoulda, Coulda's for not adhereing to my caveat of never buying the first production year of any new car!

My GX is an early one. Built 12/02. The local dealer has fixed the clunk by replacing the drive shaft. It did take a few hundred miles to wear in, but now that is a problem of the past. The outside temp sensor was replaced shortly after I took delivery. This one is better than the first but still reads about 6 degrees high. The vibration is also better than when the car was new. I don;t know why.

Of course the GVWR is still the issue and my accoountant says a very expensive issue.

Thumbs up

MJMeucci, I spent some time under the GX today and it defenitly does have a cast iron block with aluminum heads. Also I looked real good at the suspention as mine is an early build date like Dec of 02. It has coil speings and regular shocks in front, rear has torsion bars suspention with air shocks AND air bags. Now being mine is being bought back I want to find and look at one with kenetic suspention.
