Default GVWR - IRS Section 179

Purchased my GX 470 on December 28, 2002 replacing my 2002 ML 500.

Recieved my recall notice last week, 6,100 lb to 6,000 lb.

Spoke to the GM at Kuni Lexus in Denver, hear who sold me the GX. He asked me to contact Lexus directly because they would be handling all issues. He also stated that they would take care better then I have ever been treated.

So this morning I call Lexus and they are aware of the problem, they basicly asked what I wanted them to do. I requested that they buy back the GX. As a Business Owner who uses his GX for Business, I can't write it off if the GVWR is 6,000 lbs. I was told that this matter would be taken to Management and I should hear something in the next 2 weeks.

I'll keep all posted. This really PISSES me off, because the wife and I really really like the GX 470. Now I'm going to have to go buys something else!!!

Thanks for listening,

Francisco

Default Recall for weight

I have not yet received an "official" recall notice on the sticker. I am also a Kuni customer and would like to hear what you hear back from Lexus Corporate. Thanks

I have received the recall notices, all three of them. My dealer has told me because I purchased one of the early ones and because I would now be eligible for the Luxury Tax, Lexus will be taking care of this fee themselves.

Also, due to one or all of the recalls, they are giving me a 1,000 credit to any Lexus dealership.

Looknow12,

My recall mentions the $1,000 credit. But the real issue is the IRS Section 179 rules. With a first year depreciation of $24,000 and my tax bracket being the highest, I stand to almost lose $9,000 in real money this year alone.

Default Spoke to Lexus too

Spent quite a bit of time asking me questions...how much do I use for business vs pleasure, etc. How much $ do I stand to lose...etc. Also asked me what it would take to make me happy. I said "make me whole"...i.e. cover my amended taxes, interest, and tax prep = about $10,000. Don't really want them to buy it back since I like the truck and have put in several thou in phone, K40, cargo cover etc.

I asked them why they couldn't "fix" the GWVR and was told they are working on it and expect to have something in place for new vehicles and retrofit in about 10 months...so maybe this is only a 2002 and 2003 fiscal year issue...

We'll see.

Hey KnicksFan,

Don't be surprised that if Lexus does make 'You Whole' that you will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement so you won't keep everyone informed on what Lexus did to make 'You Whole'. The last thing they want to have happen is for the net and the press to know how they are treating certain people in regards to this Laurel and Hardy blunder.

Calvis,

I am having a hard time believing that Lexus is going to make this right for me and those individuals that qualify for the 179 deduction.

FCO,

It surely puts Lexus in an ackward position. On one hand they want be viewed as the ultimate customer service provider in the luxury vehicle segment, but on the other hand they know if they did everyone 'right' because of this blunder it would cost them a pretty penny. What makes this all the more interesting is that they messing around with business owners/presidents and the decision to purchased the GX470 was made solely on a business decision.

I would too be stunned if Lexus makes the Section 179 guys whole, so I am just waiting to see how this all plays out.

Someone is claiming that they are not part of the recall, implying that some trucks are properly labelled (now). Since part of my ire is based on the fact that I must re-do my taxes, I wonder when Lexus knew about this since they only informed us a week before April 15th.

Default I got mine two weeks ago

Not sure when the recall was made but I received my letter in early April. Of course there are no dates on the envelope or letter....

...no way I would have filed my taxes claiming this had I had mine in hand. Either way we'll have to see what Lexus has in mind to make this go away..

Is this true? I expect them to fix the situation, but haven't heard a 100% credible source mention it. I spent over $500 on accessories before cancelling my GX. I need to return them ASAP but hate to eat shipping only to reorder them if the GX is remedied.

What an ordeal this has been!
