Cricket Sound
Hi, I have an 08 GX, and there is a constant faint chirping/cricket sound when driving. A while back, it seemed like it only made the noise on cold mornings, but now it is all the time. I found a TSB for seat pins used in the manufacturing process, but it did not apply to the 08 GX. I’m thinking it could be a suspension part as it seems to stop periodically when I hit small bumps in the road. Anyone else experience this, and have any ideas on how to fix? Thanks

Are any of your headrests extended and vibrating? The rear seats I have heard can vibrate due to the latches having too much clearance with the metal loops. Could also be your door or window seals. Google “Shin-Etsu grease”

Thanks for the ideas. Before posting this, I did check the seat clamps, as you mentioned, by driving with seats up but the sound remained. I will try adjusting headrests, but I think the sound is coming more from lower area of vehicle. I may crawl undeneath and see if there are any obvious loose parts. I will also check the engine plate as I have struggled with keeping that tight due to bolt holes rusting and stripping. Thanks Again!

From time to time I hear this sound you’re describing behind the dash. I searched the archives, and suspects it’s the ventilation servomechanism. I kept the GX garaged this winter and have not heard one squeak.

What about the brake pad wear clip? It can "chirp" when they get thin.

Wheel bearings chirp when they are wearing out as well. Starts as an occasional noise and then it will be constant.

OP, I suggest you check this out as a possible cause. I've seen a GX with incessant chirping and it was the servo that controls the routing of air, the one that controls whether air goes through the heater core, etc. You access this servo from the passenger side floorboard. I forget exactly what was the problem, but I believe the gear on the motor shaft was slipping on the shaft. Whatever, it caused almost constant chirping, and there was no heat because the air wasn't getting routed through the heater core when the thermostat called for heat.

Thanks for all the ideas. I have noticed that it only seems to make the noise when I have my foot on the accelerator (stops when coasting or braking). That rules out a few items. I am going to check the brake clip as Chip mentioned. Thanks again!
