Guys been looking to replace brake pads and rotors. Read the forum and seems like a straight forward job. Have a question about brake pads itself. Planning to use Lexus OEM pads.

Part number that I've got is 04465-35290. I noticed the same pad kit has another number for 4-Runner 04465-AZ001-TM. Later one is much less in price. Are these interchangeable? Also, what's the deal with shim kit. Do these pads need separate shim kit or is included with the pad kit? If decided to reuse old shims then is it ok to use after market brake goo to attach the shim to the pads?

Often times. people reuse the shims, so you don't really need to buy a new set.

I'd also vote against the OEM pads, I personally had really good luck with the Wagner ThermoQuiet ceramic pads. Much cheaper also. My recollection is the pad doesn't need shims, it's integrated. I still used brake grease on the backs though.

Thanks guys for input. Well this time around I'm planning to change pads only. I believe in not changing rotors until its needed. Like if they've warped or thinned down. Mine are fine in both of these areas. I did look at the after market and its subjective which ones are good or not. The above mentioned pads which is Lexus OEM same part from 4-runner (04465-AZ001-TM) costed me only $45 from amazon. Even less than Advance Auto stock pads. At least, I can expect OEM performance from them if nothing else. So I'm hoping they fit my GX470 as the part number is the same. May be next time when I"ll replace rotor and pads together I'll opt for something performance rated.

Just an update.. So I used 4Runner pads on my Lexus and they perfectly fit. They are essentially the same pads plus these come with shims and grease with the pads. The part number for the pads is 04465-AZ001-TM. Good luck

Just did pads and rotors on all 4 corners. Also had to replace the driver front caliper as it had a frozen piston. I went with EBC Slotted & Drilled Sports all around with EBC Greenstuff 7000 front and 6000 rear. Picked up from CarID with military discount.

Also learned that Lexus requires replacement of all caliper bolts, as they are a 1 time use item (and special order too). Have to wait for Toyota Parts to open in the morning to pick up new ones. By the way, the part numbers are:
Front: 90105-12175
Rear: 90101-12167

Will give a proper bed in tomorrow and see how they do.

Lexus requires... a little lock tight and your good to go...same as 4runner

What I understand, one is packaged as 4 Runner part and the other is Lexus. Since both use same brake system, therefore components are essentially the same. 4Runner pads, as mentioned above include shims and grease as part of the package while for Lexus you have to buy them separately and pay premium. I did only front to test things out, now I plan to do the same with the rear. Getting ready for ordering 4Runner pads for Lexus for half the price.

I found the same exact part number from the Lexus and Toyota dealers...same guy owns them both... matter of fact the Lexus parts counter had no rotors in stock and called the Toyota parts counter to check there stock...I went with aftermarket rotors and glad I did.

I asked the Toyota parts manager and he said the only difference was one was made in the U.S.A. and one was made in Japan..... :shrug:
