Donovan,
There is a thread in Lexus electronics about the front nav. screen and DVD. It can be done with certain equipment. I also found it in the IS-300 section. Good luck!!

Maybe I didn't elaborate enough on the question....
Can you play DVD movies on the FRONT Nav. screen on the GX470 STOCK right off the showroom floor? Assuming of course you have the Mark Levinson/DVD Nav. option.
Thanks,

Donovan,
Thanks for the clarification. I don't have the rear DVD option, but in my research on this topic, I did find a thread which suggests you can actually watch DVDs on the front screen if you have the Mark Levinson system. I believe your vehicle must be stopped, in park, and the emergency brake applied. Again, I cannot verify this in my own vehicle.

Yes you can
Actually it seems only necessary to have the parking brake applied. I have shifted out of park and the movie plays until I release the brake.
Since I spend a fair amount of time sitting in my car (arrive early at client - wait in car; wife runs in to store to "pick something up - wait in car, etc.) this has turned into a major plus.

Thanks everybody for the quick responses. That is cool that you can watch DVD's. Of course I'm sure this will cause arguments w/ my S/O as I will never want to go shopping again Kidding of course but I'm sure it will be tempting.
Anyway thanks all,
Donovan

You need the REAR ENTERTAINMENT package in addition to the NAV/DVD system. As far as shifting out of park with E-brake applied, well did you try moving (yes its not great to do so with E-brake applied but still)... try it see what happens. If so that means only the E-brake wire needs to be grounded.

I can confirm that the DVD plays on the NAV screen when parking brake is on and car is moving less than 2 MPH. If you lower the parking brake as much as you can without the DVD changing to NAV, and then drive the car, at 2MPH the NAV screen comes on.
So, who knows how to defeat this? On aftermarket DVD players with front row screen, all that is required is to ground the parking brake wire to defeat. The GX requires that as well as some speed sensor.
When you figure it out, post it here!
