I just a couple days ago I replaced rotors, brakes, and bleed the brake system, and changed the oil on my 2007 GX470. While I was under the truck to do a visual inspection before lowering it back down, I noticed what appeared to be white 'stuff' that looked to be splattered around a bit.


I am not sure what it is or exactly where it came from -- truck is running fine, but I thought I would post to see if anyone else might have an idea. When I first saw it, it was bright white -- after a couple days driving its now more dirty color which makes me thing when I saw it, it was definitely fresh.


Hoping its nothing - but thought I would get a second opinion.

Id say your cv boot is not sealing and you got water in there. When you drive it spits it back out with a little grease. That combination usually looks like milk.

insert grease plus new clamp or replace whole thing.

I agree with Ali, either replace or clamp. Dust can damage the seals inside, that's why there's a boot in the first place.

So I managed to find time to get down their and clean it all out very well. I inspected all the boots and did not find any major cuts, tears, or holes that would explain grease escaping from the boot. All the clamps are nice and secure.


One boot is starting to crack some - so I may consider replacing it before the next wet season, or just replace the whole axle seeing as they run about $80 now, and seems to be reasonable considering the amount of work and mess to just take everything apart for a boot...


Anyone ever used the two piece boots before? Are they worth even considering?

for me the cost of new axle vs new boot made the axle the choice. the shop prefers it too, not as messy. there are rebuilt OEM axles out there
