mechanic should really be able to get parts to do it but I def understand the replacement is much quicker.
Denso is the one you want.

Denso it is.

Starter seems to be bolted from the firewall. Is there a way to remove it from the top, without getting underneath the car and getting to those bolts?

Edit: Looks like it can be accessed if the cross bar is removed.

^ Starter added a bunch of labor time not anticipated due to the crossbar, plus another gasket not here since it wasn't accounted for. Probably wouldn't have added the starter if I'd known this going in.

Update: Well it all worked out well. The mechanic didn't stick me for the additional time, owning up to his estimate!

Would you guys believe the problem was solved, then here we are one day later and the lights are back on??

This isn't happening.

UPDATE:

Was poking around some other forums and found this:

"The long and short of it is: The pump comes apart, and the plastic fins from the pump then blow into and interfere with everything downstream in the system, eventually melting in and sticking the last set of mechanical valves. I suppose there is a chance that one could replace the air injection pump the very first time it makes noise, but after that, its almost mandatory to replace everything"

Does this mean that here are likely issues downstream that should have been addressed at the time the pump was installed? And if so, what to do next?

UPDATE
Was driving it around today and noticed that it's not running in limp mode as before the fix, and it no longer makes a shop vac noise. Just the lights.

UPDATE
Limp mode is back. Still no shop vac sound, but sometimes a throaty exhaust.

If parts of the original pump are downstream and stuck in the valve chamber, it is not your new pump Spooge

^ Yes that's what I was thinking Burny, but don't understand the system. Could you tell me about this valve chamber and how one would go about clearing it?
