Default Anyone happen to know if the ML subwoofer contains it's own amp?

So i'm debating on adding a bit more "oomph" to my factory ML system with navigation by adding a larger subwoofer. Does anyone happen to know if the factory subwoofer assumbly on the right hand side in the third row seat has an amp built into it, or is the amp for it somewhere else in the vehicle?

If it is self powered, that means i need to find the two input wires in order to wire up the new amp, which would be awesome!!

I have considered doing this also. The amp is located under the front seats. I have replaced mine but can't recall if it's driver or passenger side. One is GPS the other is the amp. The easiest way to upgrade would be with an amplifier that has high level inputs. You could then mount the new amp in the rear of the vehicle and use the existing wiring as your input source.

That's what it looks like. from doing a little research, the actual subwoofer "box" only has 4 wires going into it., all of which come directly off the main amp. which likely is the left and right channels. That's perfect to use as an output for another amp in the back!

it does and mine blew out. I paid $100 to have someone cut the wire to that specific speaker assembly (speaker+amp) altogether. Sure, my sound sucks but it beats the loud buzz the blown speaker was making.

You paid someone $100 to remove (well, loosen) a trim panel and cut your factory harness? There's a connector at the speaker that can simply be unplugged, lol.

Sounds like you're talking down to itzjake. Not everyone has experience or confidence to DIY. Does it make you feel good about yourself?

The Nav voice comes out of the 6x9 speaker in the lower driver's door. It gets priority over music, and that happens in the ML amp.

You realize you're dissing a 5 year old post?

I didn't realize it was so old but I disagree about disrespecting that comment, he was the disrespectful one I just called him on it. Thanks for pointing that out .
