Default Castrol GTX SynBlend 5W-30

AutoZone site states this oil is not recommended on my 2004 GX470, 140K miles. Can anyone explain why??

http://www.autozone.com/routine-main...uestid=3577329

$1/quart.......

You would have no problem using this oil, but I wouldn't let the next OCI go past 4k miles

Probably because Lexus does not spec synthetic in factory fill. That being said....full synthetic mobile extended, or amsoil signature series, easily 12,000 miles or one year, along with synthetic filter.

Weight: 2.0500000000000003 lbs
That 3 hundredth of a quadrillion of a pound is important!

Common wisdom says that switching to synthetic in an older engine that has run on dino oil for it's entire life can result in drips & leaks, as the slipperier molecules find their way past the seals. No idea if this is actually true, but probably something to keep in mind.

I had that happen in my old 89' Landcruiser when i first bought it and switched to Mobil-1, but i imagine the seals on our newer trucks are probably much improved over that engine, which dated back to the 1930's!

Got Mobil-1 in my GX now that i bought a year ago, with 165k, and no leaks have popped up

synthetic switch on our trucks, not a problem. if a seal is going to leak over time, it wont be becasue of the oil

I switched to a full synthetic, Mobil 1, in my '03 Ford F250 several months ago and no issues whatsoever. Being that this is a synthetic blend I didn't see an issue using it in our GX.

I hear that going from a dino oil to a full synthetic that there will be issues if you try to switch back to the dino. However, since this is a blend I'm not sure if that will be a problem if I should ever want to go back. Being that I bought 52 quarts I guess I'll have time to decide.

Metal has no feeling or memory, it can't tell the difference, it's just oil. Put what you want in it
