Default tow hitch help please

I have what I believe is the factory tow package and went to use it today for the first time. I removed the bumper hitch cover and thought it would reveal the 2 inch adapter hole. Instead there are four welded nuts? can someone enlighten me to what is needed? Family is in town and was hoping to take the boat out today. Thanks a ton!:

Is this what I need?

Yes, either that, or the frame-mount hitch.

Just for you to double-check, look under the hood - is there a smaller radiator near the horns? If so, you have the trailer pre-wire from the factory, and adding the hitch is all you need to do.

Agree with chip. H but you might need a relay to plug into one of the black boxs on either side of the under the hood fuse panel .

Chip H.

Just to clarify, if we have the small radiator, does that mean the we don't/shouldn't need anything else to tow 6,500 lbs?

I have the tubular hitch on mine with the built in electrical socket.

I just bought my GX last week, so i'm still discovering everything on it. I didn't even know about the small radiator till I read this post 20 minutes ago. I bought it from a small Dealer who really didn't know anything except it was a Lexus, heh.

I found this on Amazon which matches the part number found in this thread. Is this essentially what I would be getting from Sewell minus the 6 bolts? It is roughly 80 bucks cheaper.

If you have a hitch rated for 6,500 lbs and the transmission cooler (small radiator), that means you have almost everything you need - you will also need a draw bar and a ball. Which are sold separately - you can buy them at Autozone, etc., just make sure they're rated for 6,500 lbs. The ones sold at the dealer are rated for that, but cost a little more.

thanks Chip

I read on another thread that the six mounting bolts are already on the truck and can be reinserted to mount the hitch. Do you know if this is accurate? The hitch from amazon does not come with the hardware. Thanks again

Sorry, I installed the frame-mounted hitch, not the pintle style. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Yes, the GX has pre-threaded holes for both the frame or pintle style hitch

Hey Chip, my gx has the tow package (trailer wiring, radiator) but it's a pintle hitch bolted in, not the frame mounted one. What's the tow capacity for me as is? Also 6,500lbs?

There's some debate over that. Some people here (myself included) think the value printed for the pintle-style hitch is a mistake (6,500 lbs) because it bolts to a frame cross member and not to the frame rails themselves.

If there is someone at your dealer who regularly tows things with a GX or an LX, I would talk to them to get an official opinion.

Thanks. I might just get the frame mounted hitch whenever I see a good deal, and then sell the factory installed pintle hitch that I have installed. Offset the cost a bit.
