Default Those Crazy idiot Lights

My concern(s)

2 VSC and 1 Check Engine Light just came on......

New gas cap

109,000 miles....

Every service done a the dealership

Was informed that there is up to 4 O2 sensors....

Dealership wants 500.00 which includes labor for each sensor

Thoughts,,,,Suggestions

Time to let it go???

New tires
New timing belt
New water pump
New thermo
New front and rear shocks
Garage kept

ALL RECENTLY DONE!!!!!!!!!

Sell it?! I don't understand.

Even if it's an '03, I gotta believe it's worth more than $10k.

Plus, your maint should ensure a solid automobile for the long-haul. Consider this a bump in the road.

I'd be surprised if an Indy wasn't less dough for this job.

I have an '03 Sequoia that we have had these three lights on for years. It has been an ongoing battle with Toyota (up to regional corporate) to fix with no avail. The "remedies" have all included a new gas cap, topping off brake fluid, replacing brake booster (at a tune of $1200+), changing VSC computer (somewhere in the thousands also), and O2 sensors, but no one can tell us what the problem truly is without requiring us to pony up and replace all these components with no guarantee the issue will be remediated. I have just decided to drive more cautiously knowing that TRAC and VSC are not there to catch me if I fall. Considering many components on the GX and Sequoia are shared, I'd take a wild guess that this is probably what you're experiencing too. Other than this, the Sequoia has been bulletproof and has taken my family cross county (literally) numerous times.

If you think a gas cap is going to fix an o2 sensor code, you're very wrong.

It didn't/it won't. Evap system codes are very different than O2 codes. Either you had evap codes, or you have O2 sensor codes, or both. One won't fix the other. If you replaced a fuel cap and cleared the O2 codes, the light will return. Neither one are registered as first trip priority codes like misfires are, meaning they can take several trips to return once parameters for failure are met. But what do I know, I only do it for a living.

Then it had evap codes and not any O2 codes. Gotcha. You're the one that mentioned they wanted to replace O2 sensors for $500, so I made the assumption it had codes relating to them. It obviously didn't.

Default Check Engine Light

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT came and went.

Just a worn gas cap that did not cost me a gazillion dollars at the dealership.

Thanks for your concern Johnny RAD and BlackCat!!!!

ALL IS GOOD

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!!!

I've been watching this thread to see if anyone would chime in with a "cut the wires" comment Bahahhahahahah!!!! Glad to hear it was simple Some peope just can't accept the fact that it was an easy fix and that they were wrong I might take the proactive road and purchase a new gas cap myself. Thanks for sharing your story.

Default Cap it and go!!!!!

The best 18.00 you will ever spend on a gas cap.

p.s......don't go the easy way and buy a cap from the local auto parts store...IT IS NOT THE SAME!!!

Time to load up the GX sleigh and cram in those presents.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!!

My gas cap caused a CEL today. It was a leaky evaporative system p0456 code. Gas cap was obviously shot, as it required, literally, almost zero effort to turn when removing it.
