Default Fuel guage and range readout not working intermittently

We have an 04 GX-470. Most of the time the fuel gauge and the range readout work OK. However, sometimes, the fuel gauge works, but the range shows 0 miles, or they both don't work - fuel gauge shows empty and range = 0. My wife says she thinks she's seen the gauge = empty but the range still showing xxx miles - I haven't seen that.

We've been to 2 different Lexus dealers, paid for diagnostics at both and gotten no fix. In fact, they have both said they can't find anything wrong. But thanks for your money......

To my way of thinking, these would both get their initial information from the same source - some sort of sender unit on the fuel tank. However, as both gauges do not always go out together, I'm inclined to think that this probably isn't the cause. I would think that the range readout comes from some calculations done by the onboard computer.

Anyone else experienced this? Is VERY frustrating as we regularly drive from Phoenix to Sacramento.

I too have an 04 GX470 with an intermitent gas gauge problem. I've only had it display incorrectly 3 times in the last 5 months. It would correct itself within 1 - 3 days. Sometimes correctly displaying 3/4 tank. Then next day it is at 1/8 of tank.

I haven't taken it in to be diagnosed for fear I will be in the same boat as you with no problem found.

Default Will keep you informed

I've posted on numerous forums and even written directly to Lexus. Will keep you informed what I hear. It's a very annoying problem for sure.

Possibly dumb idea (but cheap) -- replace the fuse with a new one.

Hey Chip

Seeing as 2 Lexus dealers couldn't find anything, I don't consider anything a dumb idea! :-) The only thing is they both don't go out at the same time. Not sure if they have separate fuses or the same fuse. If the same one, then it can't be that. If separate ones it's possible.

I would try a reset . Disconnect the battery for hour . Then re-attach . Reset your windows sun roof seat memory audio radio channels and see if the computer reset clears the issue with the gas gauge.

I had to install a new battery and after words my range gauge started to record correct mileage
Prior my range on a full tank was 250 miles after re-set I am over 325 miles
