Default Heatshield on GX470 necessary?

Hello everyone,

I had some rattling in the back of the car and I took it to the mechanic and it turns out the heatshield was basically sitting on top of the muffler and completely loose. The mechanic removed the heatshield and told me that it's not necessary to have it.

I was wondering if that is the case or not?

Thanks

I found mine loose the other day, just pulled the screws out and put large washers on them...looks like it's good for another 10 years. There must be a reason for them, protects chasis from exhaust heat?

It's there for a purpose, I would just tighten it back up

I did the same on mine. Use some large fender washers.

Anybody know how much a replacement heat shield cost for a GX? Is there a part number for sewell?

Looks like my GX heatshield was thrown away

Your mechanic sounds really thorough, maybe when he asks you for money you can tell him he doesn't really need it and that you threw it away.

Can somebody confirm if this is the correct part number for the heat shield for the GX470 first Gen ?

5832735050

When I search for it, it comes up for the 4Runner. Do they use the same Heatshield?
