Default looking for a little advice

So my wife and I bought a 08GX about 7 months ago.

Since we have owned it we have been able to attain all service records from lexus. Full service history since mile 1. We have done the 90K as well as several oil chances and tire rotations...

The belly pan (covering the oil filter area) is literally rusted out in several spots and during the last oil change I had to use a metal bladed sawzall to remove it as the bolt which was rusted snapped leaving the pan attached to the body, making an oil change impossible.

My question is we are near the 72 month rust warranty, think I have a chance of Lexus replacing the under body pans (both the engine and tranny ones) at their expense?

Thanks,

J

My guess is the rust is a result of some sort of impact that occurred on the skid plate that knocked the paint/coating off and allowed it to rust. It likely will not be covered. It would be like if you scratched the door to the metal and it developed a rust spot. I also think it now being cut up with a sawzall, it's going to be harder to plead your case.

That being said, it's worth a shot, the worst they can say is no. Fortunately, it should be a really cheap part, I would just find a used one and bolt it in if Lexus won't pay for it.

I just finished an oil change on mine today. I cleaned the skid plate up really well and put anti-seize on all the bolts before reinstalling it.

The front under-panel seems to be in the $330 range. The middle one about $165, and the transmission under-cover is $60-ish.

Front from Sewells is $232 with our CL discount. Shipping will be high though as it is heavy

Ditto. That is odd. My 05 has been in the NE dealing with the nasty NJ winters (snow/ice + salt) and it still looks good. I also cover the screws with penetrating oil everytime I do an oil change.
