I looked into the difference between the East & West versions of the disc. There is a line from the Chicago area down to Pascagoula that Lexus uses to divide the country. The roads are the same on both sides, but the POIs get split along that line.
So if you frequently use the POI feature to find gas stations, parks, businesses, etc. this choice will matter to you. Otherwise, buy whichever one matches where you drive the most often.

The V14.1 navigation updates are out, and they're on sale.
$99 for non-SD card updates (a DVD disc for the GX470) through December. Afterwards the price goes back to $169 (regular price).

I did ask my dealer about it when I was there yesterday for the radiator. They didn't know about the price or the website ("Is it an official Lexus site?" -- sure looks like one to me).
The whois info for the domain shows that it's owned by Lexus Service & Parts in Torrance California, with an @toyota.com email address for the registrant. Looks very legit.
The dealer said they have had several owners brick their DVD unit (the one under the passenger seat) by inserting a disc they had made from a downloaded torrent file. They said they got a Japanese error message on the display and had to send the unit off for replacement/repair. So sounds like you definitely want an official disc.
You can't order off the site directly, they tell you to contact your dealer. And I'll do that in a few days when I get some free time.

They may have made a mistake and forgot to update it. Mapping soft ware would be the same gen to gen the firmware would be different , I think if you email sewell they my be able to correct this.

I received my new disc yesterday from Sewell.
Turns out (as mentioned here) there is no 2014 disc for the Gen 2 & 3 navigation systems. The 2013 update is the last one that will be issued.
And since it was a 2013 release, it's not on sale, so you end up paying full price. With tax and shipping, mine was $190.
Inserting it into the reader, it updated the firmware in the nav computer, which took about 4-5 minutes. Afterwards I got to see all the new(-ish) roads that have been added to my area. Success!
