Not for air pressure (well, do that too) but check it for age.

I lowered mine this evening and discovered that it was the original from 2004, which makes it 10 years old.

Sure enough, there are some dry-rot cracks around the sidewall and bead area. I would not want to run on this tire for any distance.

Next time you're doing stuff to your GX, check the condition of your spare.

If you are not familiar with the DOT tire codes, google them to decipher the date code (which is required on all tires sold in the U. S.).

It's not a bad call to change them, even a newer 'used' tire is tenfold better than a unused one...

That's what I do. Spend a few bucks on a used, yet more reliable tire than a dry rotted counterpart!

It's a good idea to test lowering the spare just so there are no surprises along the side of the road in an emergency situation. Actually, the GX lowering mechanism works pretty slick. That said, I don't have a spare. (Just an air pump and a tire plug kit.)

The crank from the toolkit had never been used on my truck (no scuff marks along the shaft). It was a little tricky getting it lined up - a flashlight would have helped. But once it got started it was easy going.

Yes, I had a problem with that too. The crank goes in at an angle. Hard to see the crank guide loop in some lighting conditions. Could be lots of fun at night in the rain if you haven't tried it before.
