Default Anyone running Cooper Discoverer AT3?

I'm considering that tire for some occasional off road use (rocky / AZ). I will predominately drive on paved roads but want the ability when called upon, without changing to a second set of wheels/tires. I've done some reading and it seems many here also like the Nitto Terra Grapplers. I currently have some Michelin LTX M/S2 and concerned they wouldn't work well and get torn up a bit.

Just a heads up. Discount tire is running a $100 off $400+ promotion until March 16th through eBay.

You can buy 2 tires and get $100 and do another transaction for 2 tires and get $100 off...so $200 off and free shipping. You can only use the promotion 3 times.

Add the 2 tires to your cart and use the following code at checkout: CMOTORS0314
Then go it again for the other 2 tires.

I'll definitely check that out, thanks for the heads up. I was actually on the phone with discount tire today because I couldn't find them on their website. But I had not seen that promotion.

I recall you are one of the people using the Terra grapplers, how do you like them so far? More specifically, how did they ride on dry pavement? I've never had A/T tires and don't know how loud they will be.

The Coopers AT3s you're looking at have great reviews.

Regarding the Nittos, there are two 285/60/18 terra grappler tires. One is an XL load (4 ply) and the other is an E load (10 ply), I'm running the XL load. I have almost 30K miles on them. I measured them two weeks ago and there's 7/32" of tread left, new is 13.6/32", so slightly more than half left. If I can get another 15K miles out of them I'll be happy.

This was my first set of A/T tires and I love these Nittos. They ride excellent on dry pavement and do great on wet pavement too. It rains here almost every day in the Summer and I was surprised at how well they gripped on wet pavement. I've used them driving on the beach and dry / wet sand is no problem either. The only thing I haven't had them in is mud.

Noise is almost non-existent. They do make a little noise when going around 40MPH+ but it's not bad at all, nothing like a mud tire humming. I love having a quiet cabin and the noise doesn't bother me at all. If you're listening to the radio at a low volume or talking with a passenger(s) you wouldn't even notice it.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.

Thanks for the discount code RCxGX.

I was able to purchase (5) Cooper AT3 LT285/70-17's for $960 delivered.

Guess I just committed myself to doing a lift and installing aftermarket wheels!

I don't think I'll be able to take advantage of the $100 discount twice since each tire I'm considering costs ~ $165, therefore under the $400 required limit.

Questions for 470:
1. Did you get the discount twice? Your tire size is bigger than what i'm looking at so you probably crossed the $200/tire threshold.

2. What is method to get wheels/tires mounted, balanced, etc if you have all the parts yourself .. do you know an small Indy shop willing to charge only labor?? I've taken the route of ordering everything from Discount Tire.

YES! Got the discount by doing two transactions as RCsGX explained. No discount on the 5th tire.

I have an indy shop about 3000' from my house and they have done at least 3 sets for me. Usually get the tires from tirerack.com and have them install and balance. The indy does sell tires, but they don't turn you away if you bring in your own. You should be able to find a similar shop in your area.

Discount tire ships fast. My tires will be here Monday the 17th.

EDIT:
Just got a great deal on 5 Konig Six Shooters
Graphite gunmetal (high gloss, dark gun-metallic grey)
Diameter: 17"
Width: 8"
Offset: 0mm
Backspacing: 4.5"
PCD (Bolt pattern): 6x139.7mm
Centerbore: 108.3mm

Thanks. Things are starting to snowball. Can't use the tires without a lift and aftermarket UCA's and can't cleanly mount the spare anywhere without a Southern Style Speed rear bumper.

Would you mind sharing where you got a deal on these wheels? I am looking at the same ones and would love to save a $$ if I can.

Sure!

I talked to Dustin at FN Wheels.

Got a package deal of (5) wheels, (4) sets of lug nuts (with locks), 2 sets of center caps.
I'm not going to share the price. You'll have to work out your own deal.

Check this thread:

Woody bought his wheels from Dustin.

Dustin's a great guy and FN wheels as a whole is a great company. Browse through some of their threads (google) and look at how great their customer service is.

I've had my BFD wheels for almost 2yrs and no problems whatsoever.

RCsGX/470 - how do I find the eBay promo specifically for Discount Tire? I had originally ordered from my local Discount Tire store (a few days ago) and they called me Friday saying the Cooper's were on back order and it could be a few months (?).

I don't use eBay very often but do have an account ... when I navigate to the Tire Center I can find Cooper tires but don't see any for sale specifically from Discount Tire.
