I still like it better than what it replaced.

Chip, get your timing belt service done ASAP.
GX470s have interference engine, which means if your timing belt goes... well... it's gonna be a mess with big big big dollars.

You never know. I've read about people replacing the timing belt but not the water pump. Doesn't make since, since you're right there anyway? Did you run the VIN to see if it's been done? You can run it here: http://drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/home

Oh yes.

Timing belt (and pump and seals, but the tensioner was good) was first thing done. Waiting for the credit card to recover before the transfer case work.

Lexus/Toyota didn't have a record of the work being done. It could have been done at an independent shop, but there weren't any tool marks on the covers or crank bolt.

Default Just got a GX 470 !

I'm new to the whole Lexus world. I visited the Web site Carcomplaints. Com and saw that the 04 and 05 had a good review.
We found a 2004 GX 470 with 68,000 miles from the original owner. It was originally from New York then to Toronto and then Vancouver where I bought it. Always serviced at Lexus with all the paperwork. They were asking $17,650 and I got it for $16,600. I feel this was a good deal and will last us for many years. It has everything but the DVD player.
My wife had been driving a 2003 Accord V6 since it was new, she really likes the Lexus !!!

I was like MidnightGX, started out only looking for 4Runners, until I just realized their prices hold too strong up to about the 150,000 mile mark, prices drop after that.

I waited about 3 months and finally found a black 2005 GX470, 102K miles, and just had the tranny replaced with all the driveline items by Toyota dealer. They also did the main crank seal, and A/C. It was listed at $15,250, and I got the extended warranty so out the door price was $16,500. Funny thing is Lexus Tampa Bay had one at Autonation clearwater, and it was in really bad shape for about $2k more.

It was pretty simple for me. My wife wanted another GX470....not a 460, not a 4Runner, not any other SUV. She had a 470, we traded it in for an LR4, then an MDX. Turned out she really missed the 470 and wanted another one.

I set out to find the lowest mile, best example that I could find within a reasonable distance. Ended up finding an '08 with about 28,000 miles on it 2.5 hours from my house. I think I paid $33k for it, which may very well be high, but I don't care.

BTW - in case anyone is interested...

There is an '04 listed on cars.com right now with 11,000 miles for $27.5k. Listed by the original owner in the NYC area, says truck was never parked on the street.
