Default Used Oil Analysis

Since I'm almost at 130K I thought I'd get a UOA done. This is the 1st report so I don't have anything to compare it to but my numbers are better than the averages for the 2uz-fe so I'm happy.

In this sample I used:
  • Valvoline SynPower 5W30
  • Valvoline Oil Filter - Part # VO-25
  • OEM Air Filter - Part # 17801-50040

I used different oil and filters so hopefully I'll see an improvement but based on how well the Valvoline did there's really not much room for improvement.

  • Amsoil Signature Series 0W30
  • Purolator Oil Filter - Part # PSL30001
  • AEM Dryflow Air Filter - Part # 28-20144

That's all thanks to the previous owner. She religiously had Lexus change the oil every 5000 miles as well as had them do every other scheduled maintenance. It pays to run the VIN before you buy a GX.

For anyone looking for a GX to buy you can run the VIN below and it'll show everything that was done at Lexus / Toyota, maybe other places too but for sure Lexus / Toyota:

That's a good result with a 130k- mile truck RC. Now you have free mind to change oil at 7k interval.

I switched to Amsoil Signature Series which is good for 25K miles or 1yr. I'm going to run it for 12.5K miles or one year, which ever comes first.

I added a quick drain valve so I'm going to have a sample tested at the same 5,373 mile interval and see how it compares to the Valvoline.

Not a chance.

That link wasn't to my GX I was just telling people in general to make sure they check the VIN before buying a GX. I've noticed in this last week there were a few people looking to buy a GX so in case they read this thread I wanted them to know if they didn't already.

Yeah my GX is staying with me for years to come!!

Please keep us updated with the second test RC. Right now i"m using Mobile super 5000 and i get oil changed every 5k miles by myself, it is very good too.
Now i"m waiting for the new test from you and if it is good maybe i will follow your steps.
Thanks !

Now I wonder if there is such a website to run the VIN in Canada. Although I did see the complete service history, privacy laws apparently preclude getting a copy. Bugger.

You plan to keep the same filter in there for the whole year/12.5k miles? Purolator rate their product for 10k but you really trust any filter to work that long/hard? Keep us posted on this. I hate changing the oil on my wife's GX so I might do this in the near future.

I won't hit 12.5K miles, I'll probably hit around 10-11K in a year but yeah I trust it going that long. Tundra guys have been running this filter over 10K miles for years. If Amsoil Ea oil filters can go 15K / 25K miles or 1year this filter can do the same. I don't have the link saved but someone cut open several oil filters on bobstheoilguy and the Purolator synthetic filter is just as good if not better than the Amosil.

Other filters that they used for over 10K miles include: Amsoil Ea, Napa Plat, Mobil 1.

Saw someone post this today on another forum and thought it was funny.

"I have two cars a 2002 2.3L Ford ranger and a 2005 V8 4runner limited 4x4-- I have never changed the oil filter on my ranger it has 218,000 miles and it works great. My runner I got it used at 80k and the guy told me he just had the oil and filter change. Its at 130k and I have changed the filter. Now I do change my oil at 4k on each vehicle( I uses the cheapest Walmart oil I can find). My last car was 1997 f150 4.3L with 350k and I only changed the filter twice (I was young and stupid) I never had any problems with the f150. I'm thinking that the whole oil filter thing is a scam to spend money on parts.
Has any one actually seen an oild filter fail? Any first hand accounts?"

I know it wasn't your quote, but ...

I can't post a link right now (work computer), but take a look on reddit in \r\justrolledintotheshop

There have been several photos of filter elements destroyed and/or gummed up because of severe owner neglect.

Default oil filter

The filter you quote in this thread Purolator PSL30001 is not the OE size called for, is this a bigger capacity filter than :Purolator PSL10241
