Default Watching Movies on Nav Screen

Hi, I'm just wondering if you can watch dvds on the navigation screen even though I don't have the rear seat entertainment system? If you can, where do you put the dvd into. The golve box cd changer?

Default same question

Just got my gx today and I dont know how you can watch movies on the front screen. Whats the trick? Also is anyone with the DVD player experienceing a noise (high pitched whine) whenever a DVD is in the system? It doesnt have to be playing - just in the slot waiting to be played.

Default brakes on

i think you will be able to watch the dvd movie in the nav screen if you have your parking brakes on and the vehicle is on "park"

Default Okay, But

Ya, I know you need the parking brake on, but where do you put the dvd disk to view it on the nav screen?

The DVD player is on the center console just open the cover. Your GX have to be at 0 mph and parking brake on.

You cannot play a DVD in the navigation system drive. You must have a Rear Entertainment System, or 3rd party player. If you attempt to insert a DVD into the Nav Drive it will prompt you that it cannot read the data from the MAP DVD.

I was told by one shop that they have in the past been successful in connecting an aftermarket DVD Player up to the LX and getting it to show up on the front display.

I plan on calling them this week to follow up on this.

You can do it if you add a dvd player.

I have yet to see the pictures showing the DVD working on the nav screen despite following all of the links.

I saw the mfr's web site and the view of the nav looks awfully suspicious. They show the stock Lexus menus with brightness and contrast settings. I cannot believe you will get Lexus's menuing system to control the DVD's with their device, I think you must get a separate Pioneer menuing system.

Kind of deceiving to see this on their web site if I am correct.

The lexus controls don't run the DVD player, just normal stock functions. You will use the remote that comes w/the dvd player. Believe it, i watch TV and dvd's everyday while im driving around

Did you have to bypass the safety feature that requires stopping and applying the parking brake?

You have to use aftermarket parts, so all you have to do is ground out the parking brake wire on the video switcher and it will work fine.

Question Parking Brake Wire

mrlexusmn, you mentioned grounding out the parking brake wire to allow the buttons to work on the navigation while driving. Is this an easy mod? When you ground the wire is there any adverse effect to electrical components?

Thanks,

rocklings
