Talking White Tux Edition GX

There's not much to do with the GX so I thought I'd change the grill up.

I put on a total of 6 coats of black on the grill and 6 coats of white on the emblem.
I'm letting it dry overnight before mounting it back.

Looks good! Nice contrast with the chrome badge against the black grill.

Now put the grill back on and leave that friggin' truck alone for awhile! Jeeze.

Thanks. I plasti-dipped the emblem white, there's no more chrome on the grill.

What fun is that!!??

Since I bought my first car at 18 I've always modded my vehicles, I just can't help it.

Nice. Next project, something I've been toying with: Can you please paint your roof rails black? Not sure if a satin or gloss would be best. I think it would visibly lower the height of the truck, and look a bit tougher.

I've looked around a bit to try to find a set at the wrecking yard to paint. No luck yet.

I can't wait to try out the 3M brushed black metallic. That should really change the interior.

Thanks.

I like the look of the color matched side rails. It gives the GX a finished look.

You can always plast-dip your current rails. You shouldn't need more than 2 cans, so it'll cost around $11 or so. It's 100% reversible. If you don't like it peel it off. If you decide you like it but don't like the satin / flat finish, use some of their glossifier to make it glossy.

I installed coilovers to lift my GX, I don't want it to look lower.

Black Rims would give it a true Storm Trooper look

Looks great! I've been trying to find the time to plastidip my grille flat black, and redo the rear emblems the same. My grille is showing some stone chips and needs a freshening.

Thanks.

I was thinking about having the grill color matched but after photoshopping the pic I didn't like the look, it was too much white going on. The black gives it a nice contrast and it ties together with the 5% tint.

I plast-dipped my E39 Bimmers grill back in '07 and to this day it's looks as good as day 1. For how easy this stuff is to remove it holds up great if you put enough coats on. I first started using it back in '99. My friends and I were into nitro RC cars and when I would paint the bodies I would spray this over the Lexan paint to protect it. It's crazy to see how many people know about it now and what people are using it for. The color combos are endless now, it's not just black spray and black / yellow dipping cans....that company must be raking in the money these days!!

Looks great!

I think it would look great with a black pearl emblem vs white because it's so hard to color match with white.

Is the emblem held on with double sided tape, or what?

Thanks.

Yeah the plasti-dip is a pure white so it's not an exact match but it's not that bad looking honestly against the Blizzard Pearl. I found some 3 stage B.P. spray paint. Maybe down the road I'll give that stuff a try because I want to do something with the chrome strip above the license plate.

If I had a black GX I'd definitely do the black pearl emblem but I like the white, it gives it some contrast. With an all black grill the emblem would get lost and it would look like I did something to it. I like to do mods that look as though it could've been a factory option. With the grills next to the foglights I think the main grill ties together nicely with them and white emblem look stock'ish...or at least it does in my eyes.

Yep, it's held on with double sided tape. A little heat from the heat gun and it lifts right up.
