Looking for some advice. I have a 06 CPO GX 470 with 97,000 mi. The VSC lights came on in the dash. Codes were PO418,PO1445,PO2445. Last week the dealer came and got it and told me it was the air pump and it would be covered under warranty. I got a call last night from the dealer and they found evidence of a mouse nest in the engine compartment and the air pump would not be covered. They want $ 2600.00 for the fix. I don't know what to do. Do I go to an independent shop? I have seen on a Tundra forum that there is a bypass for the air pump that will take care of the PO1445 and PO2445 codes but not the PO 418. Anyone else ran into this?

P0418 is Secondary Air Injection system relay "A" circuit fault.

If you're paying that money for them to tear into your intake to replace the air injection pump have them fix that as well.

I'm glad I live in a state that doesn't have emissions.

If it was a CPO and still under warranty I would go higher in the chain of command for help. I would insist that they cover it. I am sure they did not notice or look for a mouse nest when they did the cpo. I would bet you have to remove covers etc to see it. Ask for a copy of the inspection report when they did the CPO . Sounds very shady to me. Tell them the mouse was there employee when they did the cpo.

If you can't get satisfaction from the dealer:

If the problem is actually related to the mouse house, it's probably electrical related.
You could try taking the truck to a shop that specializes in automotive electrical problems. The mouse damage may be very easy to spot. Mice usually chew into the wires causing open or short circuit(s). Most wiring harnesses can be repaired. The dealer is probably quoting the cost for new parts. Definitely try an independent automotive electrical specialist. Just hope the pump circuit is the only thing the mouse got into!

Here is a picture of my air conditioner inside the electrical box where the contactor is. I looked at 3 times could not figure out why the relay was not working. Then I found the mouse . He got electrocuted messing around in there.

I took all of the covers off the engine and couldn't find any signs of a mouse.Not saying there wasn't one. Just like mrblister I have had one in my ac unit. He was better off than that one. Service manager said they cleaned it up. He told me that the mice will bring in seeds and that they get into the system and cause the pump and valves to fail. Shouldn't there be a screen or something on the intake of the pump?

They must think the mouse works for the warranty co . I thought mice would eat the seeds. Sounds like a real cheesy explanation . Where is the pump intake they are talking about I would like to clean mine or at least get a look at it. Did they tell you where the pump was.

Parts list shows both a filter and air dryer in the compressor system. Maybe you have mice in your air bags! I think the air inlet is inside the car under a seat or something... maybe in a side panel. Saw that info somewhere...

Ok Now I am confused when you say air pump do you mean compressor.? As in air conditioning ,
If this is so I am not sure what mice could damage ?

You think you're confused! Sorry.
I guess he has an air injection problem. I was thinking air suspension system. The compressor (pump) for the air suspension system has a filter and dryer like the ac system.

Basically it's the smog pump and its under the intake. I got adventurous and pulled the intake and the pump. Its just a little 12v fan in a housing. Nothing in there. Can spin it with my finger. Tested it and have an open circuit. Bad motor. Called parts and they want $1200.00 for the motor! It can't be more than a $50.00 part. It's smaller than a beer can.

get the motor rewound. There are re-builders out there that can do it. Heck of a lot cheaper

If I'm remembering correctly someone on a Tundra site said a GM injection pump will also work. It's supposed to be cheaper. The cost are mainly labor cost though since you have to remove the intake to get to the pump.
