Rear HVAC, just AC, or heat as well?
The other thread about no heat got me thinking, is the rear climate control system supposed to blow heat, or just cool air? I would assume both, but I had passengers back there this week and they were complaining it would only blow cold air, even with the heat turned all the way up. I'd never really used it prior to last week in the winter to know that anything was off.
I got back there and tried it for myself, given that there is a hot/cold adjustment, I would expect there to be heat from the roof side vents in the rear, but all it would blow was cold air. As we have a baby that rides back there now, I'd like to get this resolved if it is indeed a problem.
I had the water pump and radiator replaced in the fall, along with the t-belt and t-stat, and the rad is filled with Toyota red coolant, but I did not have the heater core flushed, just a drain and fill.
So is this how the system is supposed to work, or do I have a problem? Thanks.

As far as i know, on my 2004 it's A/C only. The temperature adjustment in the back doesn't have a "hot" setting per se, and the owners manual only talks about a "rear cooler".

As far as I know, your system is operating properly. The controls in the second row of seats are just for the rear air conditioning system, and the air from that system comes out of the vents above the window line. I believe that there are separate heat vents that should blow warm air into the second row of seats from under the front seats, but how much heat comes from those vents is based on the main heater settings and is not affected by the controls in the second row of seats.

If the rear a/c (ceiling mounted vents) also handled heat duties, that'd be awesome.
Not ready to say it's a poor design, but it'd certainly be better if it did - especially since there's not vent behind the center console for the 2nd row passengers like most sedans and many other SUVs.
