Default gps dvd disk upgrade

My 2004 gx470 had the original dvd disk version 3.1 in it. I just updated it to the 2013 version 13.1

I tried the finger dance and pressed override and it still does work. I was surprised that I was able to still override it. On my 2005 sc430 after the latest disc update the override was grayed out. Have other gx470 owners experienced this?

This is because you have Generation 3 navigation system. This older system, regardless of disc version, will always have override available.

Newer versions of navigation systems, Gen 4 and above, have override removed after certain years.

So once you source the new disc, do you just pop it in and go? Or is there some sort of install the dealer needs to do?

There is quite a few areas in my part of town that have been built after 2004, and they show on my map as blank fields!

Pop in and go. It self installs from the disc.

press menu on nav button then in upper corner press dvd [ on screen ] then press your finger in the top left corner of the screen then press the bottom left corner of the screen the press top left corner again then bottom left corner then press the right bottom corner. service menu will come up press and hold your finger on override till it turns color then press back and then map button on nav and now when you are moving you will be able to access all of the normally grayed out area when you are moving this will work till you turn off ignition. Then you will have to repeat the steps above again if you want to activate the override again. its very simple to do

when I say press in the left corner right corner etc . I mean you push your finger into the corner of the screen you will not hear a beep at all . These are hidden switches that are silent when you get it right the service menu will show up. many of us are tempted to press the other buttons un the service menu like error log set date map etc. don't mess with it some guys have pressed and changed some settings in other areas that can cause you headaches. the override is safe to do as far as it will not make any changes to your nav etc . its only good until you shut car off then its back to normal.

My update is gen 2 /3 not gen 4
2004 was gen 2/3
2005 up gen 5

I would say that the only difference was in the back color. I mean you can change the back ground color in the menu settings .I never changed mine from when I got the truck. It was a kind of lightish brown night and day was more gray white.

After the upgrade the night color background was black and the day color was white. I am assuming the disk update set the setting to default settings . I just did the update yesterday so I don't have much experience with it yet. My orig disc was what came with the truck version 3.1 the update took me to `13.1 . When I was searching for POI I think it took longer to search. Must be way more point of interest to see ] I will get back to you if I find anything else . I need to try and set a destination during the day and see if I see any differences. The update took about 2 minute's and was a color-full logo screen with a green loading bar.
