the airbag on gl breaks very easily. almost every gl owner i know have run into some expensive repair (if not under warranty). watch out

gl550 is worse on gas and more on maintenance cost too i believe, but car is noticeably more powerful and imho more stylish

but the car is bigger, and the fold down 3rd row makes it easier and more usable space.

nav in the mb is more painful

What is the difference in cost and how much do you want to spend??

I have a feeling the 2004 GX is priced much lower than the MB GL550.
What year is the MB?

Are we even comparing apples to apples here? Does not look like it.
Maybe you want to compare MB GL550 to Lexus LX570/LX470?

The GL550 is more powerful and larger SUV with solid offroad capabilities. However, reliability and cost of ownership - are both in favor of the Lexus, period! The MB GL or ML SUVs are not known to be reliable. Do some research...

I love the diesel version of the MB GL for it's MPG rating and amazing torque. The engine is great. The rest of the car and all the reliability issues i read about - not so great!

Thanks. Just comparing both models. Not interested in any other models. I do not off road in any vehicle. I am a Sunday driver basically. The GL is sweet but I am actively researching the pros and cons. There are pros and cons to any vehicle regardless of brand.

If money is not a factor, then obviously a low mileage GL 550 would be a clear choice, especially over an 04 GX with 97k miles.
If it was a GL 450 + an older model - then I'd consider a GX over that.

Basically, as others have mentioned GX is more reliable than GL - that's the primary thing.
Comfort, power, roominess, looks, prestige and ride quality are all in favor of the GL.

GL. Recently was a third row passenger in one for a half hour drive. It was actually kind of comfy. Very nice ride. (this coming from a very loyal GX owner who plans on keeping it well past 100K).

The VERDIT is coming today.

Yes, I am a very very loyal to the Lexus brand......the mb has some major issues to when it come to service.

on the mb...every 36K miles new brakes... but you HAVE TO BUY NEW ROTORS ALSO SINCE THEY ARE NOT SKINABLE....

on the mb....tires will last only 20,000 miles....then it is $2,000 for 4 tires. regardless if they are Perllies or Continental's.

That's the tip of the iceberg!!!!!!!!!!

Now knowing the 2014 GX460 are on the way to the dealerships....and for 49,000 ( which has the features that I need, plus a brand new warranty vices the mb's preowned for 12 months/unlimited.....THE JURY FOREMAN HAS THE RESULTS..JUDGE IS REVIEWING......

WHAT DOES THE JURY GALLERY HAVE TO SAY? NEWS AT 5 FILM AT 11!!!!!

Now I just have to find out what the 2014 color schemes will be.

Money is not the issue....it boils down to maintenance costs.

mb dealer will not come off the 48,000 price and now knowing that the tires, rotors are very limited in life.

So...I will get the new 2014 GX460!!!! (and be happy).

and now the mb dealership told me that since my ride is perfectly maintained, they see no reason why I could not get at least another 150,000 miles out of it!!!!!!

So, what happened to the 2004 GX470 with 97k miles on it?? You said that you were "not interested in any other models".
If you're looking at the new GX460 now, why not test drive a slightly used LX570?

The new GX460 is nice and all, but is not in the same class as the GL550 or the LX570.

i would take a used lx570 over gx460 any day

for some reason, the new gx460 doesn't feel as powerful (torquey?)

Since I own the GX470....the mb caught my eye...was going to trade the GX....plus ALL the 90K service was done (which did not matter to the mb dealer)...my GX will work for me for now.
Not trying to keep up with the Jonesey's.

How can you pass on the GL550 over a 04 GX if money wasn't a factor
I would not have been able to resist it.
