Restored my wheels with plastidip
Bought the aluminum color off dipyourcar website and they turned out great. Easy to do just masked off the lug nuts and the overspray pealed off the tires. Should've taken a before pic but they were looking rough with paint peeling and discoloration. I sanded down the chipped areas first. 3 cans of aluminum gave 4-5 coats then 1 can of their glossifier for the top coat. Was about $50 for everything.

Thanks, definitely worth doing as an inexpensive way to make wheels look new again. They also have an anthracite color which I almost tried but stuck with oem aluminum color.

did you sand w/just sandpaper and elbow grease? power sander? They look great. I just bought FJ wheels and swapped them w/my horrific rims but I may just spray the old rims just to see what they look like.

Just sandpaper yeah, and smoothed out with some spot body filler in areas. There are some areas that I wish I worked harder on as the plastidip doesn't hide imperfections as well as I had hoped. But for $10/wheel it's an enormous improvement regardless. If anyone uses the anthracite color I'd love to see pics! Nice thing is that it's easy to change the color with a couple more cans just put on more coats. Dipyourcar.com has some great YouTube vids. I cleaned the wheels, put plastic garbage bags between the wheels and brakes/rotors, taped off the face of the lug nuts and sprayed it on. Whatever overspray hits the tire peels off perfectly along the rim edge as it doesn't stick well to tire rubber especially with a new or freshly shined tire. In fact the more overspray there is the easier it peels off in one big piece. Just make sure whatever you use to put behind the wheel to protect the rotors/brakes (plastic garbage bags in my case) is not touching the wheel cuz if it does it will adhere to the wheel and want to peel once you remove it from behind the wheel. Any peeling or mistakes can be smoothed out with naphtha or other thinners to smooth it out then resprayed rather than peeling it all off.
