Was helping a buddy look for a new suv and turned him onto the gx. Found one he likes but noticed it has a manual transmission! Did lexus ever offer this or was it special order. I've seen aton of gx's for sale and never seen a manual one before.

Not a factory option, so not a special order. If it's a real GX470 then it's been retrofitted, or the other alternative is a Prado with Lexus badges. Even the 4th gen 4Runners didn't come with a manual option.

Ya it's at a local small dealer. It def has all the normal Lexus badging and look like any other gx. I'll get the website from him so y'all can check it out.

Have you actually seen it or are there pictures of it? A lot of dealers make mistakes in ads when they write them up.

Sorry forgot to get the site. I saw pix of it it's definitely manual. Orig I thought it was the 4wd but then he read in the description it said manual so we went back and checked it diff is.

As a Lexus employee for many years, I can tell you the GX470 and GX460 was only available with an automatic transmission. The Toyota Prado was available with a manual trans.

The transmission lever he is seeing is either the automatic shifter (that normally has a tilted look to it) OR the center diff lever.

GX470 has two shifters, one for automatic transmission and one for Hi/Lo 4WD. I have seen quite a few non-Lexus dealers to be "certain" that 2nd shifter is for manual. This is simply not true since GX470 never had manual transmission option.

in fact GX's stick looks more like a manual transmission then Automatic, this is probably why

I think it is safe to say that most of us here have more extensive knowledge of these vehicles than an average car dealer. Earlier this week I was looking online at a 2012 Tacoma; the dealer had Air Conditioned seats listed as an option. I am certain the Tacoma has never been offered with Air Conditioned seats.

Ya sorry he couldn't find the site again it sure looked manual lol but I thought it was probably wrong. I ended up getting a new SUV but went with the escalade.
